Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Joshua Kimmich's first-half lob gave leaders Bayern Munich a 1-0 victory at second-placed Borussia Dortmund in the Bundesliga on Tuesday to close in on the league title with a seven-point advantage over their rivals and six games left in the season.
Kimmich sent a perfectly-weighted chip over stranded keeper Roman Buerki in the 43rd minute as the champions landed a big win, at an empty stadium that normally seats 80,000 fans, in their quest for a record-extending eighth straight league crown.
Bayern, who have now won their last seven league matches, are on 64 points with Dortmund still on 57. RB Leipzig, who face Hertha Berlin on Wednesday, are third on 54. Relive the action below:

Willkommen! You don't need me to tell you how big this game is in every which way: professionally, socially, Bundesliga-title-y.
Already the chasers Borussia Dortmund are taking it to Bayern Munich... first on the draw with their team news. Jadon Sancho's still not fit enough for the starting XI 😱
And here is Bayern's starting XI...
... through the medium of Zoom. Presumably Leon Goretzka had trouble getting in after misplacing the password. Remember kids - a secure online meeting is a happy online meeting.
We've got you well covered over this way.
Trying to recall a time in my life when Tuesday tea times were this exciting.
Beyond a time when fish fingers and potato smileys with a side of beans got me going - week three of lockdown - it feels like a real treat to have this kind of anticipation so early in the day and so early in the week. 0-0 incoming...
Not to be the kind of person who tells you how many calories are in that doughnut, but the form book doesn't bode well for Dortmund...
They've lost five of their last six against Bayern Munich, conceding 24 goals. The last two encounters saw them wear 4-0 and 5-0 defeats in the last two. Oh and your childhood dog didn't actually go to a farm – they went to live with the kid down the street because you were too clingy.
All eyes are going to be on the two frontlines.
It's hard to give this a Good v Evil, Light v Dark slant because there's a level of demonism to the respective dominance of Robert Lewandowski and Erling Braut Haaland. A goal every 82 minutes for the former, one every 69 for the latter. Strong Alien v Predator vibes.
1 mins: Borussia Dortmund 0-0 Bayern Munich
Dortmund off like a train! Already a sight of Manuel Neuer out of his box to snuff out a through ball, followed by Jerome Boateng clearing off the line as Haaland gets to the clearance and gets an effort through Neuer's legs but comfortable enough to be swiped away and far by the centre back.
5 mins: Borussia Dortmund 0-0 Bayern Munich
And now Bayern threaten to hit back. Benjamin Pavard's is comfortably the slowest full-back out there but is able to get deep into the host's half to almost tee-up Lewandowski with a pass into the middle.
10 mins: Borussia Dortmund 0-0 Bayern Munich
Ball in the net albeit from a clear offside... but Haaland had the chance to score legitimately, controlling a pass in from Thorgan Hazard who had been set through beyond Alphonso Davies. A delay, a slip and a block snuff out that one. But promising signs for those in yellow...
