From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

Unai Emery was looking to continue his love affair with this competition and end the Gunners' 25-year wait for continental success at the end of his maiden campaign in the dugout.
But Arsenal collapsed as a tepid first half made way for a memorable second period at the sparsely-filled Baku Olympic Stadium, where Chelsea manager Sarri masterminded a 4-1 win that brought his first major trophy. Re-live the action in the blog below.
Unai Emery speaking to BT Sport pre-match:
On the game:
"This title is the first in our target. We want to enjoy it. And also do something in our career history for Arsenal. And after the title, the possibility to play in the Champions League is our second target."
On Petr Cech starting:
"He has played all the matches in this competition. And when he's playing and helping with big commitment and giving us his quality and big performances, he deserves to play also."
Petr Cech is the first player to play both for and against the same English team in a major UEFA European final (for Chelsea in 2013, against them in 2019).
Aaron Ramsey looks on, injured and unable to play in what would have been a fitting sendoff for the Arsenal stalwart...
The opening ceremony is currently taking place in the Olympic Stadium, and the players are waiting in the tunnel...
A reminder of the teams:
Chelsea: Arrizabalaga, Azpilicueta, Christensen, Luiz, Emerson, Knte, Jorginho, Kovacic, Pedro, Giroud, Hazard
Arsenal: Cech, Maitland-Niles, Sokratis, Koscielny, Monreal, Kolasinac, Torreira, Xhaka, Ozil, Aubameyang, Lacazette
4 minutes: Chelsea 0-0 Arsenal
Cagey start to begin with - both sides getting on the ball but no real impetus as of yet.
The pitch is absolutely huge by the way, which may explain why both teams are opting not to press high up the pitch so far.
