Lionel Messi scored to help Barcelona clinch the Spanish league title after beating Levante 1-0 at Camp Nou on Saturday, cementing Barca’s status as the dominant club in Spain for more than a decade.

Introduced at half-time, Messi finally broke the deadlock when his shot beat Levante goalkeeper Aitor Fernandez in the 62nd minute to start the celebrations at the Camp Nou.

Messi's league-leading 34th goal was his 46th in all competitions this season.

Barcelona's win puts the club nine points ahead of second-placed Atletico Madrid with three matches left to play.

Atletico beat Valladolid 1-0 earlier, forcing Barcelona to need a victory to wrap up the title this weekend before the club turns its attention to its upcoming European clash with Liverpool.

Barcelona won their second straight league title since Ernesto Valverde took over at the start of last season. It was also their eighth Liga crown in 11 years, a period during which Real Madrid has won two and Atletico one. Barcelona has 26 league titles, second only to Madrid's 33.

Barcelona are trying to complete a rare sweep of all three major titles this season. They host Liverpool on Wednesday in the opening match of their Champions League semi-final, and can win a fifth consecutive Copa del Rey if they beats Valencia in the final on May 25. Relive the action below.

10 min: Barcelona 0-0 Levante

Not a huge surprise, but Levante are surrending pressure rather frequently in their own half thanks to tight pressing from the hosts.

The cameraman however is preferring shots of Messi sat on the bench, with the Argentine three goals ahead of PSG's Kylian Mbappe.

in terms of most goals in the European leagues.

A first yellow card of the game and it goes to Ivan Rakitic after a poor challenge from behind on Real Madrid loanee Borja Mayoral.

He will consequently miss the next league game against Celta, sorry Liverpool fans.

18 min: Barcelona 0-0 Levante

We haven't really seen much goalmouth action since the first couple of minutes, but the likes of Ousmane Dembele and Jordi Alba have had no problem in running at the Levante defence.

Still calm at the Camp Nou despite the drop off in the last ten minutes or so.

And as I say that, Luis Suarez makes me look quite silly.

The Uruguayan goes on one of his daring runs but takes a touch too many having beaten his man, allowing Aitor Fernandez to narrow the angle and pull off his third save of the match.

Two Coutinho chances, two Fernandez saves!

Rakitic finds space in the middle of the park and finds Coutinho in space, who sidefoots a low effort straight at the keeper.

The former Liverpool man has an even better chance a minute later, arriving unmarked seemingly to easily nod in from Alba's cross, but again he only finds the grateful hands of Fernandez.

29 min: Barcelona 0-0 Levante

Coutinho fancies a goal tonight at least, but again he is denied from long range by Fernandez.

The Levante goalkeeper keeping the visitors in this at the moment.

You hope they don't end up wasting these if it doesn't happen tonight

34 min: Barcelona 0-0 Levante

Luis Suarez has threatened tonight, but he is back to his acting now.

Roberto Suarez Pier makes little contact with the former Liverpool man, who clutches his calf in agony, but VAR agrees with the referee's initial decision.

Arturo Vidal has been heavily involved in the last few minutes.

The Chilean hammers wide from outside the box with his left foot, before attempting to put Coutinho clear on the left, but the Brazilian cannot control the former Bayern Munich and Juventus midfielder's long-range pass.
