Over the break it was one of their stars in Jack Grealish who was making all the headlines, shining with England and quickly becoming a favourite of the national team’s fans.
Domestically, Villa have won five of their seven games so far and a win will take them level with Leicester City, who went into the break top of the table.
Brighton have struggled to find an end product to go with their at-times excellent build-up play and have just one win from eight games so far, 16th in the table at the start of play. Follow the end of Newcastle vs Chelsea and the build-up to the game at Villa Park below:
GOAL! TOTTENHAM 1-1 MAN CITY (LAPORTE 27’)
City are level! Rodri sends a cross into the middle and Jesus brings it down. He tries to work room to shoot, instead laying off for Laporte, who slots his finish coolly into the bottom corner. But there’ll be a VAR check for a possible handball…

Chance! Hojbjerg wins the ball in midfield and Spurs break. Kane drives forward through the middle and feeds Hojbjerg to his left. His cut back picks out Bergwijn, but Rodri gets back just in time to dispossess the Dutchman.
TOTTENHAM 1-0 MAN CITY (22’)
A succession of City corners come to nothing, but they’re immediately back on the ball, ready to build from defence.
TOTTENHAM 1-0 MAN CITY (20’)
City continue to dominate possession, and most of the game is being played in Spurs’ half. But the hosts are standing firm so far.
TOTTENHAM 1-0 MAN CITY (17’)
Again, De Bruyne tests Spurs’ defence with a menacing cross. Dier heads clear, and from the corner Torres has a shot charged down.
TOTTENHAM 1-0 MAN CITY (15’)
De Bruyne whips a free kick into the box and Rodri powers a header at goal. It’s straight at Lloris, though.
TOTTENHAM 1-0 MAN CITY (13’)
Kane puts the ball in the net! But he’s offside. It’s another swift, incisive move, with Ndombele picking out Son in the box. His ball across is converted by Kane but the flag is quickly up.
TOTTENHAM 1-0 MAN CITY (11’)
Aside from the goal City have been in complete control. But that counter-attacking threat is constant from Spurs.
TOTTENHAM 1-0 MAN CITY (9’)
Chance! Jesus surges into the box and is stopped in his tracks by Alderweireld. The lose ball falls to De Bruyne, whose powerful left-footed shot strikes the prostrate Jesus and deflects away from goal.
