The Gunners opened the scoring through Alexandre Lacazette, who headed home after a chipped cross from fellow forward and captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, before Michail Antonio stabbed home an equaliser on the cusp of half-time.
Arsenal substitute Eddie Nketiah sealed the win for the hosts, however, striking with five minutes remaining to break West Ham hearts. Re-live all the updates here:
54 mins: Masuaku swings in a good cross from the left wing. It comes into the six-yard box and Antonio is almost on the end of it but Gabriel gets a touch to take it away from him. Leno smothers the ball and almost drags it over the line.
51 mins: Arsenal keeper Bernd Leno ran out to the halfway line to stop an attack. And now he's just hanging about 15 yards outside his penalty area possibly to stop the long ball forward for West Ham.
48 mins: Aubameyang makes a clever, well timed run in behind as the ball is played over the top. He collects the ball a lays it off to Saka who shoots. The shot is blocked and goes out for a corner. The corner comes into the box but West Ham clear it without too much trouble.
Second half: It’s the Gunners that get the game back underway, there’s been no changes at half time from either team.
Greame Souness has praise for West Ham after the first 45 minutes:
45+1 mins: Half time at the Emirates. Arsenal looked in total control but West Ham hit them on a swift counter attack scored on the stroke of half time. The Gunners will have to start again in the second half and try to get back in front. West Ham are back in this, tey’ll think that they can go on to win.
Arsenal 1 - 1 West Ham - Antonio
45 mins: GOAL! West Ham strike back on the stroke of half time. Bowen brings the ball forward on the counter attack and he slots it into the right side of the box for Fredericks. Fredericks collects and fires it into the six-yard box where Antonio slides onto it and taps the ball into the net. West Ham are level.
40 mins: Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang's cross finds Hector Bellerin, who picks out fellow Dani Ceballos but he doesn't shoot. Arsenal have had wave after wave of attacks but they haven’t had a go at goal. It’s quite frustrating.
