From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

The Gunners boast a commanding 3-1 aggregate lead from the first leg, when Martin Odegaard gave his side the lead with a fierce long-range shot. A calamitous error gifted the Greek champions a second-half equaliser, however, Gabriel Magalhaes and Mohamed Elneny seized a firm advantage for Mikel Arteta’s side in the final 15 minutes. Arsenal are clear favourites to progress to the quarter-finals, but will still remember the scars of their dramatic exit at the hands of Olympiacos last season, when Youssef El-Arabi scored a last-gasp extra-time winner at the Emirates.
Arteta confirmed that a line has been drawn under Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s discipline breach, which saw the captain dropped for the club’s 2-1 north London derby victory against Tottenham. “We talked, everything has been resolved in a really positive way. So we move forward,” Arteta said. “Everybody has to obviously perform at the highest level to earn his place in the team and there is no exceptions there.” Follow all the action live below:
69’ - Milan 0-1 Man United (1-2 agg)
Chance! Calhanoglu is played through on the right and drills a low cross into the middle. Kessie arrives on it and looks to convert from close range. But Lindelof flies across to make a vital block. There are some appeals for a handball, which the referee ignores.
68’ - Milan 0-1 Man United (1-2 agg)
A good spell of possession in Milan’s half for United, who are playing with some swagger now. Pogba, playing wide on the left, is at the heart of everything.
66’ - Milan 0-1 Man United (1-2 agg)
Milan send on two former United players: Dalot is the first, in place of Kalulu; and the second, of course, is Zlatan Ibrahimovic. Castillejo makes way.
64’ - Milan 0-1 Man United (1-2 agg)
Fernandes lifts a free kick towards the back post and Maguire attacks it. He can’t prevent the ball from running behind for a goal kick.
62’ - Milan 0-1 Man United (1-2 agg)
Greenwood darts into the box but his low cross deflects into the path of Donnarumma. United have been far more energetic in the final third since the break.
59’ - Milan 0-1 Man United (1-2 agg)
Kalulu fouls Shaw on the left flank and goes into the book. Fernandes whips the free kick towards the near post and a nick of a Milan head sends the ball looping behind for a corner, from which Maguire is penalised.
58’ - Milan 0-1 Man United (1-2 agg)
Kjaer gives the ball away and United break. Pogba finds Fernandes, who slides a pass through to Fred on the left. His cross is poor, driven straight against Kalulu.
57’ - Milan 0-1 Man United (1-2 agg)
Pogba spots the goalkeeper off his line and goes for goal from a long, long way out. It flies high and wide and the Frenchman smiles wryly.
55’ - Milan 0-1 Man United (1-2 agg)
Fernandes spots the run of James and almost pulls off an audacious through ball with the outside of his foot. Donnarumma reads it and intercepts. The game has opened up since the goal, which should suit United.
