Arsenal beat Leeds United at the Emirates Stadium tonight as Mikel Arteta further built on an encouraging win over Manchester United.

The Gunners have a proud history in the FA Cup and avoided the ignominy of falling at the first hurdle against the Championship leaders.

Leeds are flying once again under Marcelo Bielsa and are looking on course for promotion to the Premier League after 16 years away, but they didn't quite have enough. Follow all the latest live:

Match preview

When is it?

The tie will kick-off at 19.56 on Monday 6 January at the Emirates.

How can I watch it?

The match will be broadcast live on BBC1 and BBC Sport online.

Predicted line-ups

Arsenal: Martinez; Maitland-Niles, Holding, Mavropanos, Saka; Willock, Guendouzi; Nelson, Ceballos, Smith Rowe; Martinelli

Leeds: Casilla; Ayling, White, Cooper, Alioski; Phillips; Helder Costa, Dallas, Klich, Harrison; Bamford

Team news

Alexandre Lacazette and Lucas Torreira are both likely to be rested after pulling up during the club’s victory over Manchester United. Gabriel Martinelli remains a doubt due to a hamstring injury.

Tyler Roberts was ruled out of the West Brom game with a minor knock, while Adam Forshaw and Jamie Shackleton have returned to training and could play. Pablo Hernandez remains a longer-term absentee.

Prediction

Leeds should push a heavily rotated Arsenal side to the wire, however, the good feeling conjured by victory against United should carry over for Arteta, with a young side who’ll be desperate to prove themselves to him.

Arsenal 2-1 Leeds

Arsenal 1-0 Leeds

90+2: Matteo Guendouzi ignores the crowd's advice to shoot on the edge of the box and instead draws a cheap free kick. Arsenal managing this game well in the closing stages.

Arsenal 1-0 Leeds

90+3: David Luiz takes the resulting free kick and blasts the ball some way back in the stands. When was the last time the Brazilian defender scored one of those? In fact, when was he last on target? Maybe it's time to give someone else a go.

Arsenal 1-0 Leeds

Arsenal are through to the fourth round of the FA Cup and will travel to Bournemouth in a few weeks after overcoming a tough first half spell against Leeds.

Reece Nelson was the unlikely goalscorer in a full-strength Arsenal team.

Leeds were breathtaking in the early stages and forced Emi Martinez into a number of good saves in the first 45 minutes, the home side also needed the woodwork to keep them in the game when Patrick Bamford saw an effort skim the frame of the goal.

Mikel Arteta's talk at the break changed the game and Arsenal showed their class as they dominated proceedings to secure safe progress to the next round.

Arteta 'shouted a lot'

Alexandre Lacazette tells BBC Sport that Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta was less than impressed with his side's dismal performance in the first half.

"He shouted a lot," Lacazette said.

"He was not happy because we knew they'd play like this and we didn't respect what he had said."
