Manchester City are reigning champions after a dominant 2020/21 season and Pep Guardiola's side are favourites to win it again boasting as they do one of the best squads in Europe.
European champions Chelsea have proven they have what it takes to dethrone City, however, having done it in last season's Champions League final and will be hoping to add a domestic title to the one won in Porto.
Liverpool were winners back in 2020 ending a 30-year wait for league glory and Jurgen Klopp is sure to have them back challenging again at the sharp end this season too while Manchester United will be looking to be back in the title picture with Cristiano Ronaldo returning to his former club in the summer.
It's not all about the action at the top though with Norwich, Watford and Brentford promoted to the top tier for 2020/21 and hoping to hold their own against the best English football has to offer and avoid the drop.

Raphina manages to keep the ball in play as he centres the ball into the middle of the box, looking for a tap in, but Rodrigo mistimes his run and the Southampton defence are able to clear it away.

Gelhardt lifts it into the box for Rodrigo and Harrison. Rodrigo goes down inside the box and appeals for a penalty, but it is not given as it was mainly of his own doing.

It has become a bit of a scrappy game in the last few minutes, with no real threat on goal from either side. We are heading to the business end of the game, surely we will see one of these teams throw some caution to the wind to chase the three points?

There are appeals for a penalty for Southampton, as Raphinha brings down Diallo inside the box. The referee is not convinced, but it is checked by the VAR. They also agree there is no penalty, as replays show that Diallo connects with Raphinha first.

Cooper with a blasting kick from defence into attack, but there is nobody home for Leeds allowing Forster to make the easiest of saves, clearing the ball away.

Gelhardt with a sliding tackle on Bednarek, but he is unable to connect with the ball and it goes out of play. Gelhardt appeals for the corner kick, but it is not given. Replays show the wrong decision was made and a corner kick to Leeds should have been paid.

Salisu takes the throw in, deep inside attacking half for Southampton. A beautifully placed throw in, to give Southampton every bit of advantage, but the Leeds defence are able to intercept and clear it away in the end.

Drama on the ground, as both Forster and Walker-Peters collide in the last line of defence. Forster is back to his feet but Walker-Peters is taking his time, sitting up and he will be able to continue.

Gelhardt gets himself involved inside defensive half for Leeds, as he gives Meslier the backpass, to allow Leeds to reset and send the ball into their attacking half.
