Amorim on if United is the impossible job

Ruben Amorim enjoyed a dream start to life at Manchester United but could not claim an opening win in the Premier League as Ipswich claimed a draw at Portman Road.

Marcus Rashford scored after just two minutes of Amorim’s first game in charge - with the Portuguese coach seeing his new system click into gear in a stylish move.

But Omari Hutchinson equalised before half time with a wonderful curling effort into the top corner and United needed Andre Onana to be on top form to secure the visitors a point.

The United goalkeeper twice denied Liam Delap with fine saves, leaving Amorim with plenty of work to do to get his new side to where he wants them to be.

Follow all the reaction from the 1-1 draw, below:

Amorim: “I just want to work with my players"

Ruben Amorim has plenty to say on Sky, and he mentions that “I think my players were thinking too much”.

“We lost some balls without pressure. But they really, really tried and they want this.

“They want this, the players want this, they don’t know how to get it that was my feeling.

“You start discovering things that you didn’t know like Garna, can hold the ball between lines, you can understand that by seeing the games because he’s always open so you try to find these things.

“Bruno Fernandes, he improved his game by playing near the ball. So he can give us the long pass but you cannot put him there all the time because he wants the long pass all the time.

“We will try to find a lot of things about the players, we will need a lot of time to work out these things.”

“This week I spoke more [to the media] than I did in four years at Sporting. I just want to work with my players. Nothing more,” he says as he wraps it up.

The referee blows the final whistle and it’s a disappointing start to Ruben Amorim’s tenure. He looks like a man who knows he has plenty of work to do.

It finishes all square at Portman Road!

Hojlund wins a corner but the delivery is poor and it’s claimed by Muric, and that should be that.

There’ll be four minutes of added time here. It’s Ipswich on the attack, but they lose it as Clarke’s ball flies out of play.

Coming into the final minute of the match and neither side looks like they’re going to win it. It’s all very pedestrian once again, but it’s the home side who are applying the pressure at the moment.

The free-kick routine isn’t a great one, but the home side get a second chance as Clarke takes the ball down and lays it off to Chaplin, who perhaps wasn’t expecting it and he fires his effort straight at Onana.
