From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. Wales missed out on promotion to the top tier of the Nations League as Denmark won a passionate Cardiff contest 2-1.

Nicolai Jorgensen gave Denmark a half-time lead and Martin Braithwaite's superb volley two minutes from time doubled their advantage to seemingly end Welsh hopes.

But Gareth Bale's instant response, sliding home his 31st international goal after rounding Denmark goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel, had the visitors hanging on at the end.

PENALTY NETHERLANDS

Moussa Sissoko with a vey heavy challenge on De Jong provided Memphis with the perfect chance to finish the job...

Nathan Jacobs16 November 2018 21:38

GOAL! Netherlands 2-0 France (DEPAY)

And finish the job he does IN STYLE.

The striker is in great form and it shows as he dinks the ball down the middle and Lloris flails his arms to try and retrieve the situation but he can't.

Thoroughly deserved victory for the Dutch.

74 mins: DRAMA IN LONDON! PENALTY TO BRAZIL.

Laxalt takes a swipe at Danilo and the Brazilian goes down.

Craig Pawson takes his time giving the decision but it looks to me like there's no contact on Danilo.

Regardless, up steps Neymar...

GOAL! Brazil 1-0 Uruguay (Neymar)

As cool as you like, Neymar sends Campana the wrong way and gives the Brazilians the lead.

Uruguay are furious, unsurprisingly, with Luis Suarez leading the complaints, again, unsurprisingly!

Meanwhile, back to the Nations League games...

Wales were beaten by Denmark in Cardiff in a hard fought game but Ryan Giggs ought to be happy with his side's efforts as they created enough chances, with Bale's free-kick, tipped on to the bar by Kasper Schmeichel a particular highlight.

Goals from Jorgensen and Braithwaite gave the Danes what seemed like an unassailable 2-0 lead but Bale's goal reduced the arrears and gave Wales a sniff but it was too little too late.

The victory means that Denmark win the group.

Meanwhile, the Oranje return to form with victory over World Champions France and it was much deserved.

Goals from Wijnaldum and a last minute penalty from Depay means that victory for Netherlands against already relegated Germany in the final game with see Ronald Koeman's men top the group.

As for Didier Deschamps, he ought to be very disappointed with his side who barely turned up this evening.

81 mins: CHANCE BRAZIL!

He's not everyone's cup of tea but there's no denying Neymar's ability and he swings in the most delightful of boys towards the far post where Richarlison is lurking.

The Everton winger beats Laxalt to the ball but can't sort out his feet and his volley goes wide of the goal.

What vision from Neymar, though.

85 mins: This is a friendly, by the way.

Not that you could tell from the game as Cavani becomes the SIXTH Uruguayan outfielder to go into the book so far this evening.

To be fair, Neymar made a meal of this one (as per usual, I guess).

89 mins: Free Kick Uruguay

La Celeste are still pushing for an equaliser and they're complaints for a free-kick are awarded by Pawson.

Can they find a goal?
