From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Scotland will be looking to bounce back against San Marino after their humiliating 3-0 defeat at the hands of Kazakhstan.

After that shock upset, San Marino will certainly fancy their chances against Alex McLeish's side - despite being the lowest-ranked country in world football and having conceded 37 goals in their last ten matches.

Scotland must now secure a win to keep their hopes of automatically qualifying for Euro 2020 alive.

San Marino 0-1 Scotland

8 minutes

San Marino have stemmed the tide somewhat since the goal, although they're doing nothing to threaten Scotland. A free kick for the hosts is easily dealt with and Scotland resume their control of the ball.

San Marino 0-1 Scotland

A chance for Russell, who receives a cross at the back post but can't guide his effort on target under pressure. San Marino's goalkeeper does not appear to be instilling much confidence in one of football's leakiest defences.

San Marino 0-1 Scotland

14 minutes

McGregor pings a corner out to O'Donnell, who goes for goal from distance. His shot is blocked, so Scotland restart from the back, passing the ball around unchallenged. You get the feeling San Marino would be delighted if this stayed at 1-0.

San Marino 0-1 Scotland

18 minutes

The hosts can't get the ball off Scotland, who are content to knock it around in midfield and wait patiently for an opening. This is more like a training session than a competitive football match.

Ryan Fraser is enjoying himself so far today. He provided the opener and will be looking to get on the scoresheet himself at some point.

San Marino 0-1 Scotland

21 minutes

Scotland should be 2-0 up. Paterson nods the ball down from a long ball and Armstrong is played through on goal. His first shot is saved but the rebound falls straight back to the Southampton man, who looks certain to score. Benedettini is there again, though, to pull off an impressive double save.

San Marino 0-1 Scotland

25 minutes

Fraser is brought down right on the edge of the San Marino box - a couple of inches further forward and it would've been a penalty. The Bournemouth winger picks himself up and goes for goal from the set piece. His effort is poor, though, and sails over the bar.

San Marino 0-1 Scotland

29 minutes

Some nice interplay on the left, though completely harmless from a Scotland perspective, brings audible cheers from the San Marino fans. They won't be too disappointed by the way this has gone so far.

San Marino 0-1 Scotland

30 minutes

San Marino create their first chance of the game. Hirsch makes a clever run and finds himself one on one with Bain. He rounds the goalkeeper but takes it too far and smashes his shot against the side netting. There's some boos from the stands, probably from the away fans. That was worryingly close to an equaliser.

San Marino 0-1 Scotland

32 minutes

Scotland go straight up the other end and Paterson, rising highest to win a header, draws an extravangant save from Benedettini. He's injured in the process and receives some treatment from the physio.
