From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. 7 min: Draxler threatens with his pace down the right and pushes the ball ahead of Skriniar before being brought down. Germany free-kick. Kroos bends in to the near post where Khedira rises dangerously to guide the ball to the top-right corner. Kozacik is quick to react and pushes it over.

GOAL! Germany 1-0 Slovakia (Boateng, 8 min)

GOAL! Germany 1-0 Slovakia (Boateng, 8 min): From the corner spot the ball is whipped into the centre of the box but easily dealt with by the Slovakian defence. They can only clear it as far as Boateng though who catches the ball on the volley and from the edge of the box drills it into the bottom left-hand corner. It looks to have taken a slight deflection on its way in but Boateng won't care. He's claiming it as his first international goal for Germany.

12 min: Penalty to Germany! The ref points to the penalty spot after Skrtel blatantly pushes Gomez in the back as German leaps to meet a high ball. Reckless challenge.

12 min: Ozil steps up to take the penalty and fires it to the right but Kozacik guesses right and pushes the ball away. The Slovakian defence scrambles to the ball and boots the danger away.

16 min: Gomez flashes to life on the edge of the box. With the ball at feet he fakes to shot on his right before shifting it to his left. He snatches at the ball with a powerful left-foot but it's blocked by an outstretched Martin Skrtel. It's all Germany though.

49 min: Slovakia give their opponents a brief scare as Hamsik sets up Kucka on the edge of the German box. The Slovakian forward comes storming in to meet the ball and sends an absolute thunderbolt of a shot on goal. It's right down the throat of Neuer though who barely budges but simply puts up two safe hands to take the ball into his chest.

53 min: Skrtel nips in front of Gomez to intercept a pass from Ozil and charges forward down the centre of the pitch. He plays it ahead to Hamsik who drifts from right to left but is eventually caught on the ankles gaining a free-kick in the process. His attempt on goal sails over the post but looks to have clipped the German wall. The replies confirm it but the ref has already given Germany a goal kick.

Samuel Lovett26 June 2016 18:12

56 min: Credit to the Slovakians, they're refusing to roll over. Hamsik injects a degree of urgency into the game as he seizes possession in his own half and plays a lovely long-range pass across the deck to Peter Pekarik out right. The full-back storms down the flank but his delivery into the box is over hit and floats over the penalty area and out for a goal kick.
