Fulham vs Southampton LIVE: Premier League result, final score and reaction
Follow all the action from Craven Cottage
Southampton will begin 2023 at the foot of the Premier League after a last-gasp Joao Palhinha goal condemned them to a 2-1 defeat at Fulham.
James Ward-Prowse thought he had secured a first point under new Saints boss Nathan Jones after scoring a free-kick to cancel out his own own-goal.
But Palhinha struck a minute from time with a far-post header to leave Southampton rock bottom.
Fulham, meanwhile, will end the year as top dogs in west London after climbing above Chelsea and Brentford, despite top-scorer Aleksandar Mitrovic missing a stoppage-time penalty.
Fittingly it was their first home match since the death of their 1966 World Cup-winning full-back George Cohen, and a moving tribute was paid, with former boss Roy Hodgson and Cohen’s son Anthony laying wreaths.
We will bring you all the reaction and updates from today's game in the live blog below:
Fulham vs Southampton
The win moves Fulham up into seventh place for the time being with Brighton still to play. Southampton remain at the bottom of the league as Jones still searches for his first league win as manager. Fulham will travel to Leicester in their next game while Southampton host Nottingham Forest.

Fulham vs Southampton
Fulham dominated possession in the first half but found it difficult to break down the Southampton backline. Adams almost put the visitors ahead in the 19th minute, but Leno made a great save to stop the striker from scoring. Southampton started to grow in the game but an own goal from Ward-Prowse in the 32nd minute gave Fulham the lead. Pereira went for goal from the edge of the box and his effort was deflected into the net by the Southampton captain to give the hosts the advantage at the break. The visitors changed their formation at half-time and they started to enjoy more of the ball. Ward-Prowse then atoned for his error in the first half by scoring a fantastic free-kick to equalise for Southampton. The match was fought evenly from there on in but it was Fulham who managed to get a winner as Palhinha headed home in the 88th minute to give Fulham all three points. Mitrovic had the chance to get a third from the penalty spot in added time, but Bazunu made a good save as the match finished 2-1 to Fulham.
