Fulham fully deserve their 2-0 lead at the interval. A scary moment in the fourth minute as Joelinton thought he had given the visitors an early lead, but his fantastic strike past Leno was to be chalked off due to Willock, who played the pass to the Brazilian, being deemed offside in the build-up. A minute later Fulham had the ball in the net to make it 1-0. Jimenez took the ball down on his chest after a cross from Traore, as the Mexican swivelled he put his effort in the bottom corner of the goal, perfect strike. The pressure then became relentless from the London side as Smith Rowe struck the bar in the eighth minute before Pope had to deny Jimenez in the 14th minute. Fulham were desperate for a second and they got it in the 22nd minute. Smith Rowe poked an effort towards goal from the edge of the penalty area, catching Pope cold as the keeper pushed it into the bottom corner. Fulham may not have dominated proceedings in terms of possession as they only had 40.4 per cent, but they have been dominant everywhere else. Fulham have had 13 shots, with seven of them on target giving them an xG of 1.29, compared to Newcastle’s xG of 0.1 from only one effort on target from their four shots.

Newcastle have Fulham stuck on their penalty area, but there is a lack of ideas of how to break down the host's resolute defence.

Gordon with a horrible attempt. He cut back inside the right full back, and lined up the shot towards the far corner. As he struck his effort it did not look destined for the net, and it flew miles over the top.
