Follow live coverage as Fulham face Newcastle United today in the Premier League. Another top-flight season will be covered in full right here with The Independent, as reigning champions Manchester City look to make it an unprecedented five titles in a row come the end of 2024/25.

The likes of Arsenal and Liverpool will be chasing Pep Guardiola's side, but just as fascinating will be the race for Champions League places, with more teams than ever before having designs on top-four finishes. Chelsea remain big-spending, Manchester United's latest rebuild continues and both Tottenham and Newcastle will expect improvements this year - yet it was Aston Villa who snared fourth last term.

Meanwhile, it's Southampton, Leicester City and Ipswich Town who made it back to the elite after promotion last year and each will have hope they can make it more than a one-year stay. Follow the latest live action from the Premier League below:

Fulham vs Newcastle United

An entertaining game from start to finish, with Fulham coming out on top 3-1 against Newcastle. The visitors thought they had opened proceedings in the fourth minute through Joelinton, but Willock, who assisted the goal, was ruled offside. A minute later Fulham made it 1-0, as a cross from the right by Traore was taken on the chest by Jimenez, before the Mexican swivelled on the penalty spot before striking his effort sweetly into the corner of Pope’s goal. The pressure continued as Smith Rowe struck the bar in the eighth minute. Then in the 22nd minute, Fulham had made it 2-0, as Smith Rowe poked the ball towards Pope from the edge of the penalty area. The Newcastle goalkeeper seemed to be taken by surprise, as all he could do was push the shot into the corner of the net. Newcastle offered nothing in the first half, leading to the introduction of Hall and Murphy at halftime. This paid off immediately as Murphy played Barnes through down the left in the 46th minute, before Barnes turned inside to place his effort into the bottom corner past Leno. This goal brought Newcastle to life, and the game was end to end. Howe’s team would control the ball, with 61 per cent of it, but Fulham dominated in creating chances as they had 22 shots, half of them on target to Newcastle’s four attempts on target from 15 shots. This meant Fulham’s xG was 2.36 to Newcastle’s 1.44. Newcastle never gave up and looked to move the ball long as the game came closer and closer to the end. However, this would cost them as their captain, Guimaraes, looked to spray the ball from their left defensive corner flag to the right side of the pitch, but his pass deflected off Muniz into the pass of Nelson in the D of their penalty area. The winger cooly fired the ball past Pope to wrap up the game and earn three points for the hosts with a 3-1 victory.

Another chance goes begging for Fulham on the counter. They can not kill this game off. A volley over and wide by Iwobi from a byline cross by Nelson was crying to be put into the back of the net. There were five Fulham players in the attack to the four Newcastle defenders, Silva can’t believe the decision taken by his players with this opportunity.
