From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Giant-killers Wigan Athletic of the third tier, who eliminated Manchester City in the fifth round, bid to continue their dream FA Cup run against a relegation-threatened Southampton side looking to find form under newly appointed manager Mark Hughes.
Following the sacking of Mauricio Pellegrino on Monday evening, Hughes was appointed this week and took charge of his first training session on Thursday ahead of this tie.
He has been tasked with keeping Southampton in the Premier League, so this could be seen as the perfect opening match for him to assess his players with the pressure off and the potential of a morale-boosting place in the FA Cup semi-finals at stake.

22: Southampton try to play out the back but Jacobs leads the Wigan press and steals the ball in a dangerous area. The Saints regroup, win back possession but then pump it forward as Wigan come at them again.
24: Corner number seven for Wigan is played short and given away to Cedric. Southampton break forward but nothing comes of their counter attack.
26: Bertrand challenges with Massey. The attack-minded full back has rarely been able to get forward so far.

30: Another wide free kick is wasted by Southampton who are still struggling to get hold of the ball in attacking areas.

34: Wigan win a free kick on the right wing which is crossed into the middle. McCarthy meets the ball with another fist and clears the danger.
36: Southampton threaten to attack with Boufal but unsurprisingly it breaks down and Wigan come forward. Massey and Power link up on the left and the ball is worked into the box to Jacbos who finds Grigg who just can't get room to shoot. That was some lovely passing play from the hosts.
38: Jacobs charges on goal in a central position, he draws the defenders towards him and has Massey to his right but instead shoots from the edge of the box. Play that to the right and we might be talking about a Wigan goal.
Former Huddersfield and current Cheltenham Town defender Will Boyle, like most of us, is struggling to work out who the Premier League side are.
41: Southampton scrap to clear the ball in their box and concede corner number nine. Power fights the wind and delivers a cross which is heading directly into the net and McCarthy, who has been coming for crosses, claws the ball out of the net.
42: Corner number ten is deep and Morsy crosses into the area. A wind-caught ball bounces towards Grigg in the six yard box but he can't react quickly enough, not that the Southampton players were interested in reacting quickly. Anyway, the ball is eventually cleared and half-time cannot come soon enough for Mark Hughes' side.
