From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. In fact, Carroll has a message to the United defence.“I like to say that if the ball comes in the box I feel I am favourite.

“I don’t think that anyone else is going to get it – so if that is unplayable, I am unplayable.”

Big talk. Can the striker deliver?

Will Andy Carroll score tonight?

With Marouane Fellaini and Andy Carroll on the same pitch there could be a couple of elbows being thrown out there.

The big Belgian is not the most elegant of midfielders and you can bet your bottom dollar Louis van Gaal has chucked him in to counteract Carroll's aerial threat.

Will Marouane Fellaini get booked tonight?

Mr. Van Gaal is clearly worried about Carroll's threat. And the small matter of keeping Payet quiet."I've seen the Andy Carroll show (against Arsenal) and I think our problem against Tottenham was also the miscommunication of our central defenders," said the United boss.

"I hope that we improve our communication because it is very important this game for us.

"Carroll has special qualities. We have seen that in the match that he played on Saturday. It was also against Arsenal and they have great central defenders but still he could do that.

"So we have to cope with Andy Carroll and not only Andy Carroll, the other players.

"They have a certain player called Dimitri Payet for example, he can also play."

One duel that could be crucial tonight is Timothy Fosu-Mensah vs Aaron Cresswell.

The Dutch youngster had a blinder at Spurs and United's defence collapsed when he went off through injury.

He'll be keen to stop Cresswell's surges into the final third as the Hammers' full back are key when it comes to delivering for Carroll.

That is unless Van Gaal decides to play the 18-year-old as a second striker, of course.

26 mins: Lanzini wins possession inside his half and leads a break forward. Payet makes a great run down the left but the hosts are stopped in their tracks when Carrick brings down the Frenchman. The United man goes into the book and deservedly so. He'll probably take that as Payet was away.
