From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Tottenham recorded the biggest away win in club history on Friday as Fernando Llorente scored a hat trick to help crush fourth-tier Tranmere 7-0 in the third round of the FA Cup.

Tranmere held out until Serge Aurier got Tottenham rolling with a strike from 25 meters (27 yards) five minutes before halftime.

Son Heung-min set up Llorente and Aurier early in the second half and made it 4-0 with a goal of his own in the 57th.

Llorente then added back-to-back goals in the 71st and 72nd before late substitute Harry Kane capped the demolition.

Besides the biggest road victory for the club founded in 1882, it was also its largest margin of victory since beating Wigan Athletic 9-1 in 2009.

Tranmere 0-0 Tottenham

19 minutes

Tottenham have had over 80% of the ball so far and should be a goal up. The positive for Tranmere will be that they are still in the game. But they will need to get more of a foothold in it if they are to pull off an upset.

Tranmere 0-0 Tottenham

The hosts get near Spurs' box for the first time. A long ball is played in the direction of Norwood, who looks to get in behind Tottenham's defence. Walker-Peters defends well, but the flag is up for offside anyway.

Tranmere 0-0 Tottenham

Tranmere are starting to assert themselves on Spurs now. They've won a few challenges in midfield and relieved some of the early pressure.

The ball drops nicely for Connor Jennings - who scored two wonder goals at Southport in the last round - in the box. He strikes it well on the volley but Foyth is there to block.

Tranmere 0-0 Tottenham

26 minutes

This is much better from the home side. Norwood is played in behind and goes for goal from a tight angle. His shot flies wide of the near post, but Harris was open in the middle and Tranmere's top scorer should probably have squared it across goal.

Tranmere 0-0 Tottenham

Son plays the ball into the path of Lucas Moura, who looks like he might run through on goal. Ellis comes across, though, and wins the ball with a crunching tackle.

From the resulting corner, Llorente hits a left-footed volley just over.

Tranmere 0-0 Tottenham

32 minutes

Tranmere try to play out of defence through McNulty but the big defender is dispossessed. Spurs work the ball across the box and Foyth hits one from distance. Again, it's straight at Davies.

Tranmere 0-0 Tottenham

34 minutes

Jennings wins a corner and the Tranmere fans sound their approval. This could be the hosts' best route to goal...

Tranmere 0-0 Tottenham

35 minutes

Tottenham defend the first corner, but concede another. From that, Monthe loses his marker and gets a free header on goal. He's leaning back, though, and it loops into the hands of Gazzaniga.

Tranmere 0-0 Tottenham

38 minutes

Tranmere have grown more and more confident as the half has progressed. It was a shaky start, but they're defending well now and offering much more of a threat at the other end. The fans, you sense, are starting to believe, too.
