From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. Your support makes all the difference.Jesse Lingard scored his fourth goal in as many games and substitute Romelu Lukaku added a stoppage time effort as Manchester United reached the FA Cup fourth round with a 2-0 home win over Championship side Derby County on Friday.
Lingard, who scored a pair of fine goals in a 2-2 Premier League draw with Burnley followed by another in a 2-0 win at Everton, produced another exquisite finish as he unleashed a first-time shot from 18 metres in the 83rd minute.
Lingard hit the post several minutes earlier as Derby looked set to earn a reply after United had missed a string of chances, with Marcus Rashford also hitting the woodwork while visiting keeper Scott Carson produced a barrage of good saves.
Lukaku, who returned from a head injury and came on as a halftime substitute for Henrikh Mkhitaryan, broke away and powered his shot past Carson at the death as Derby threw men forward in search of an equaliser.

Great challenge
Gary Rowett has Derby County in second place in the Championship and has named a good side against Manchester United. He says the third round tie is a game his players should enjoy and feel relaxed in.
“It’s a great challenge for the players – one we are going to learn an awful lot from about the players and whether they can step up and take the responsibility in a game of that magnitude.
“It’s a great tool to see which of our players can handle it. We’re aspiring to play against teams like Manchester United every week so if we go fearful and show we can’t handle that type of game then that’s a bit of a worry when it comes to what we are trying to achieve this season.
“There’s no pressure of picking up three points and, if anything, I think it means that we will go there more relaxed and allow us to play with a little more freedom.
“These are the games that we aspire to be facing week in, week out. As a player and a manager, you have to embrace these challenges.

Exit rumours are 'garbage.'
Jose Mourinho has been on the defensive in the build up to this game. He says he is happy to extend his current deal beyond the agreed three years, which he is half way through.
Derby County won the FA Cup in 1946. Managed by Stuart McMillan, Peter Doherty and Jackie Stamps scored in extra time as the Rams beat Charlton 4-1 in front of a crowd of almost 100,000 people at Wembley.
Of course Manchester United have a better recent history in the competition. The have won the famous competition 12 times, their most recent in 2016 when they beat Crystal Palace in extra time.
