The Dutchman, signed last week from Southampton for a reported fee of 75 million pounds ($101.7 million), rose inside the area to head home an Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain corner in the 84th minute of what had been a pulsating Merseyside derby.
Liverpool looked to have been frustrated after Gylfi Sigurdsson brought Everton level in the 67th minute after a brilliant counter-attack from Sam Allardyce's side.
The home side had taken the lead through a 35th minute penalty from James Milner after Everton defender Mason Holgate had pulled down Adam Lallana in the box.

55: Emre Can plays a forward pass for Adam Lallana to chase, he beats Phil Jagielka to the ball but shoots wide .

53: Juan Mata sees a clean strike from the edge of the area saved and the ball falls to Paul Pogba who shoots wide from inside the area. You would expect him to do better from that distance.

56: Tom Lawrence collects the ball 25 yards out, sets himself, and riffles a shot at goal and Sergio Romero palms it away. The ball took a bounce in front of him so that's a good save.

62: Virgil Van Dijk almost has his first goal on his first appearance for Liverpool. He meets a deep cross and from close ranges heads at goal but Jordan Pickford is well placed to deal with the danger.

66: Sadio Mane breaks forward on the left and is heading to goal along the byline but Mason Holgate does well to tackle him from behind. Everton break and Ademola Lookman finds Phil Jagielka, he plays it to Gylfi Sigurdsson who curls a right footed shot into the bottom corner from the edge of the box.
