From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

17' - Anthony Martial has looked very good in these early stages. He's skipped past his man with ease twice already and sparked a couple of decent United attacks.
20' - Luke Shaw gives away a free-kick on the edge of the box for a foul on Joe Bryan. The decision looks soft but Mike Dean has probably just about got it right. Bryan dusts himself off to take the free-kick but blazes his shot high and wide of Sergio Romero's goal.
21' - Off the woodwork again! Marcus Rashford cuts inside on his favoured right foot and rifles a wonderful strike against the post from distance. Zlatan Ibrahimovic tries to make something happen on the follow-up but United's attack eventually fizzles out.
24' - Decent strike. Paul Pogba picks the ball up just past the half-way line and drives at the hosts' defence before curling a 20-yard shot just wide of Luke Steele's near post.
Bristol City 0-0 Manchester United
28' - Aden Flint wheels away in celebration after tucking the ball into an empty net... but Bristol City's celebrations are cut short by Mike Dean's whistle.
The defender had, after all, just obstructed Sergio Romero as he attempted to spark a United counter-attack with a long throw-out.
Bristol City 0-0 Manchester United
31' - Hordur Magnusson stings Sergio Romero's palms with a well-struck drive and United's back-up goalkeeper does well to tip the ball behind for a corner.
Bristol City 0-0 Manchester United
39' - Paul Pogba shows good feet to burst away from his marker in midfield before threading a pass through to Zlatan Ibrahimovic. However, the Swede rejects the opportunity to hit a first-time shot with his left foot and a Bristol City defender gets back to turn the ball behind for a corner.
Ibrahimovic has look extremely rusty tonight, which is understandable.
