This year sees Manchester City try to defend their crown and claim a historic fourth title in succession. Pep Guardiola’s all-conquering City, who also won the Champions League and FA Cup last season, will have to see off Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester United, Liverpool and the rest to claim an unprecedented sixth league title in seven years.
Meanwhile Luton Town are making their first appearance in the Premier League, having risen from non-league in an incredible decade of progress. They followed Championship winners Burnley and second-placed Sheffield United in earning promotion to the top flight.

BAR! McNeil rolls the ball out to Garner on the right before the midfielder gives it straight back to him just outside the box. The winger has time to get a shot away and blasts his left-footed effort towards the goal, with it swerving away from Flekken before thundering against the bar!

Brentford have won their last two Premier League games, as many as they had in their previous 18 combined (drawing four and losing 12). They last won three in a row in October-November. They just had the best chance of the match through Toney, but he couldn’t beat Pickford for his first Premier League goal since February!

WHAT A SAVE! That’s a fantastic stop from Pickford! Wissa flicks a wonderful pass down the right to Jensen, who surges down the right before curling a low cross into Toney. He attempts to drive a first-time shot past Pickford at close range, but the goalkeeper makes himself big to make an impressive save.

Jensen rolls the ball out to the right and into Mbeumo before rushing down the right looking for the return. However, Mbeumo holds onto it before his chipped cross into the box is cleared away.

There shouldn’t be much of a shock that the first half ended goalless, with Everton stopping their opponent from scoring in the opening 45 minutes on 23 occasions (more than any other side). Additionally, the Toffees haven’t scored in 23 outings in the first half. The Goodison Park crowd will be hoping for an entertaining contest after the restart.

Brentford get the ball rolling. Frank will want to see more from his attacking trio of Wissa, Toney and Mbeumo in the second half.

Everton had a massive 12 shots in the first half but didn’t hit the target with any of them, creating an xG of 0.63. Eight of their efforts did come inside the box, with Brentford doing brilliantly to block their strikes before the ball could reach Flekken. McNeil has been the Toffees' brightest spark and had made three key passes, but Chermiti has also been good, with the forward making some impactful runs. As for Brentford, they only created an xG of 0.2 with their four efforts. Toney might have had 19 touches, but he has struggled to get involved in the attack and has often dropped deep to get involved with the play.

Everton and Brentford failed to have a shot on target in a first half that ended goalless at Goodison Park. McNeil went close with a cross-shot early on, but his strike from the left side of the box evaded Chermiti and went just wide of the right post. Brentford's best chance of the half came after a wonderful touch and cutback from Janelt, with Jensen ignoring Toney to his right before seeing his shot from close range get blocked by Branthwaite. Chermiti then had a first-time effort stopped by Collins before he looked to assist Doucoure with a clever layoff near the end of the first half, but the midfielder's wild volley went well wide of the left post.
