From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Ceballos sent his strike through a gap in the defensive wall to claim the winning goal in a 2-1 victory at Real Betis. Ceballos, who joined Madrid from Betis before the start of last season, went on in the 74th minute to jeers from Betis fans and with Madrid on the defensive.
But when Casemiro earned a foul just outside the box, Ceballos stepped up to score the goal that will take some pressure off beleaguered Madrid coach Santiago Solari.

A corner for the visitors is cleared as far as Pedro Bigas, who sends his shot high into the stands.
39 minutes: Barcelona 1-0 Eibar
Sergi Roberto should be in the book.
The Barca defender tugs Marc Cucurella in a threatening position, and I'm not quite sure why he hasn't been yellow carded. Eibar's free-kick is cleared.
42 minutes: Barcelona 1-0 Eibar
Sergi Enrich has been booked here for Eibar - I think it's for remonstrating a little too much at the referee.
43 minutes: Barcelona 1-0 Eibar
Big penalty shout for Barca!
Coutinho is put through in the box, and he goes down under pressure from Ruben Pena - referee decides against giving a penalty.
There was contact, was there enough to bring the Brazilian down though?
44 minutes: Barcelona 1-0 EIbar
Luis Suarez talks himself into the book after arguing with the linesman about a foul given against him.
HALF-TIME: Barcelona 1-0 Eibar
No time added on at the end of the first-half.
The half-time whistle is met with jeers by the home fans - Eibar have played very well in this first period, and can count themselves unlucky to be behind.
But it only takes one moment, and Luis Suarez's goal sepeartes the teams at the break.
