Jurgen Klopp's side have to beat the Serie A side by more than one goal to ensure progress to the knockout stage having suffered a fourth successive Champions League away defeat - this being the first time they have lost all three away group games.
Juan Bernat and Neymar, whose 31st goal in the competition saw him leapfrog Kaka as the top-scoring Brazilian, put the hosts ahead before James Milner's penalty on the stroke of half-time offered hope.
But despite an improved second-half performance Liverpool could not find an equaliser, leaving themselves with it all do in what is certain to be a highly charged occasion in a fortnight's time.

The two biggest games of the evening have been starkly different and neither is going the way of the English side at the moment although Liverpool may feel like they have more momentum, scoring right on the brink of half time courtesy of a James Milner penalty.
Spurs meanwhile need to up the ante otherwise their trip to the Nou Camp will be for nothing more than pride.

A good free-kick from PSG finds Marquinhos in the box who prods it beyond Alisson but to the relief of all in Liverpool red, the linesman lifts his flag up for offside.

Apart from the disallowed goal, Liverpool have started this half slightly better.
That said, free-kick in a dangerous position for PSG.
