From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

Fresh off the back of a 2-1 victory over rivals Liverpool, giving United the unquestionable edge in finishing second in the league, Mourinho’s side will fancy their chances on Tuesday night, as they look to continue their strong run of form in 2018, which includes just two defeats in 13, and advance to the quarter finals of the Champions League for the first time since 2014.
Anthony Martial and Paul Pogba remain doubtful for the second leg clash, with both players not featuring at the weekend against Liverpool. Earlier this week Michael Carrick confirmed his retirement from football at the end of the season, and United will be looking to give the midfield veteran a fitting send-off by potentially winning the competition for the second time in Carrick’s career.

It’s a big game for…
Marcus Rashford. After scoring a brace against Liverpool in his first start of 2018, Tuesday night could present Rashford with yet another opportunity to prove his worth for both club and country. If he is given a starting berth, the youngster will no doubt be looking to capitalise on his chance, and scoring in back-to-back games at Old Trafford would no doubt boost his chances for nailing down a more permanent position at United in the build-up to the World Cup in Russia.
Best stat…
United have drawn 22 goalless matches in the Champions League, a record they share with AC Milan.
Player to watch…
Scott McTominay. Mourinho’s repeated selection of the now Scottish international has been telling of the faith he has McTominay, and with four Champions League appearances in the current campaign, Tuesday night could be yet another opportunity for the young midfielder to prove his worth on the biggest stage in Europe.

Odds…
Manchester United to win: 16/25
Draw: 14/5
Sevilla to win: 5/1
72 mins: After Pogba had steered another effort from outside the box wide, Vincenzo Montella makes his first change of the night. Wissam Ben Yedder is on for Luis Muriel.
74 mins: GOAL! MANCHESTER UNITED 0 SEVILLA 1: (Agg 0-1)
Sevilla land the first blow of this tie and it is a huge away goal! Wissam Ben Yedder had been on the pitch for less than two minutes, but he has given the Spanish club the lead with a fine finish. Ever Banega and, then, Pablo Sarabia were allowed to move through the middle of the Old Trafford pitch without challenge, and that allowed the latter to thread a pass through for the French forward. A superb first touch from Ben Yedder saw him control and move away from Eric Bailly before his second buried a low right-footed effort into the bottom corner of David de Gea's goal. There will be no extra-time at Old Trafford tonight!
76 mins: A double substitution for Manchester United with the Premier League club now needing two goals in the final 14 minutes to progress. Juan Mata and Anthony Martial are on, off go Jesse Lingard and Antonio Valencia.
78 mins: GOAL! MANCHESTER UNITED 0 SEVILLA 2: (Agg 0-2)
That's it! Manchester United are crashing out of the Champions League as substitute Wissam Ben Yedder notches his second in six minutes since being introduced. Dismal defending from a Sevilla corner left Joaquin Correa completely unmarked, and when the Argentine headed back across goal there was Ben Yedder at the near post to convert via the hand of David de Gea. The Manchester United goalkeeper tried to recover as the ball bounced over the line, but the fifth official was on hand to award the goal and Sevilla have an unassailable lead.
84 mins: GOAL! MANCHESTER UNITED 1 SEVILLA 2: (Agg 1-2)
Romelu Lukaku pulls one back, but is it too little too late? The Manchester United striker was in the right place to turn in after Nemanja Matic had flicked on Marcus Rashford's cross from the left. He's quick to retrieve the ball from the back of the net, but with only six minutes plus stoppage time remaining surely it's a futile act.
86 mins: A chance for the hosts to draw level, but Martial's run and cross is snuffed out by some desperate Sevilla defending. Surely there is no time left for what would be a dramatic comeback even by Manchester United's standards.
90 mins: Paul Pogba passes the ball straight out of play for Sevilla throw-in. It's probably not what is needed at this late stage.
90+1 mins: Ben Yedder for the hat-trick...it must be...no! David de Gea blocks with his feet after the two-goal substitute had been gifted the entirety of the Manchester United half to run in to. A smart save that will count for nothing.
Manchester United crash out at the hands of Sevilla, but it's Roma who progress in Italy after defeating Shakhtar Donetsk on away goals after their tie finished 2-2 on aggregate.
Sevilla and Roma will join Liverpool, Bayern Munich, Manchester City and Juventus in Friday's quarter-final draw.
