From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Manchester United host CSKA Moscow tonight with a place in the last 16 of the Champions League all but guaranteed. Assuming FC Basel comprehensively beat Benfica, Jose Mourinho’s men need to avoid a 6-0 defeat at the hands of their Russian opponents – a result that seems unlikely by all accounts. Still, United will be keen to end their group stage campaign on a positive note.

What time does it start?

The game kicks off at 7.45pm on Tuesday 5 December at Old Trafford.

Where can I watch it?

The game will be broadcast on BT Sport 2. Coverage starts at 7pm.

It’s a big game for…

Romelu Lukaku. The Belgian is set to lead United’s line once again after Mourinho confirmed on Monday that Zlatan Ibrahimovic is not yet ready to start. With Ibrahimovic back on the scene though, the pressure is on for Lukaku to prove his worth – though a run of 12 games with just one goal to his name certainly won’t help his cause. In a match that Mourinho will want to see his side dominate, Lukaku needs to step up to the mark and deliver.

Ferdinand: United have the luxury of resting players for the derby

"He (Jose Mourinho) is bringing in players like Rashford, Blind, Mata. This is a great opportunity to take your foot off the pedal and give some other players some minutes.

"They've got a big game at the weekend."

Gerrard: Mourinho treatment of Shaw 'not personal'

"He (Jose Mourinho) is trying to get the best out of Shaw. He goes about it in a certain way. I don't think it's personal.

"As England fans, we want to see him back. When he's on his game he's one of the best left-backs in the country."

You may be wondering why we've not published team news from Chelsea vs Atletico Madrid.

The reason is... we don't have it. Not really sure what's going on in London but Atleti's team bus turning up late may have something to do with it.

Pre-match quotes from Jose Mourinho

On his team selection: "Matic is injured, we have many other injuries. The players we have available, if they are not in the line-up, they are on the bench."

On giving a chance to some of his fringe players: "I don't want to put any kind of pressure on the players. It's a good opportunity for Luke Shaw but I don't want him to look at it as though its now or never or you have to play amazingly well or you don't get a second chance. It's not an exam."

On Marcos Rojo's omission from the matchday squad: "Marcos is tired. He was out for seven months. We thought about not playing him in consecutive matches but it happened because we had no Jones and no Bailly. We had to play him against Watford and Arsenal. He really needs the rest."
