From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. Manchester City must overturn a 3-0 deficit in the Champions League quarter-final against Liverpool or risk yet another European failure under Pep Guardiola, after enduring one of their worst week’s since the manager took over last season.

Having been roundly blown away by Liverpool in last week’s first leg, City then managed to lose the Manchester derby 3-2 against fierce rivals United, despite taking an early 2-0 lead, to prevent them from securing the Premier League title. With their Champions League hopes hanging by a thread, another defeat tonight at the Etihad Stadium will raise serious concerns about this current side.

Liverpool will need to prove that they can recreate the type of performance that decimated City last week away from Anfield though, with Jürgen Klopp’s side facing their own test after securing such an impressive victory. With doubts over star player Mohamed Salah’s fitness, Klopp will hope to see a defensive shutout to guarantee Liverpool’s progression to the semi-finals for the first time since 2008.

We're still waiting to hear from Pep Guardiola and Jurgen Klopp but they shouldn't be long now.

Post-match reaction from Jurgen Klopp

"It was difficult tonight, especially with the start. We served them a goal on a plate but I expected something like that.

"You then need to react in the right way. I liked the reaction. City took all the risks they could take and we needed a little bit of luck and a really disciplined defending formation.

"I wasn't overly happy at half-time but, yeah, what can I say? I have nothing to criticise because I knew it would be difficult and we still did it."

Post-match reaction from Pep Guardiola

"It was a tough game, we will be back stronger next season.

"I said congratulations for the team for what they've done. We move forward and we have six games to try and win the Premier League."

Guardiola also had a fair bit to say about tonight's referee, who he clearly isn't a fan of!
