From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. Match facts

Borussia Dortmund have lost just one of their last eight matches at home to English sides in European competition, but this defeat was against Spurs' North London rival Arsenal (W5 D2).

The Lilywhites have won twice away in Germany in their European history - beating Bayer Leverkusen 1-0 in 2006 and FC Koln in 1974, both coming in the UEFA Cup.

Dortmund have made the last 16 of each of their last four European campaigns, the other three being in the Champions League. They were however eliminated at the last 16 stage last season to Juventus in that competition.

Spurs have reached the last 16 of the Europa League for the first time since 2013/14, having been eliminated at the last 32 stage by Fiorentina last season.

The last time Borussia Dortmund faced an English side in the knockout phases of a European competition, they went onto to win the tournament (v Manchester United in the Champions League semi-final in 1996/97).

Only Aritz Aduriz (7) has scored more Europa League goals this season than Erik Lamela (6).

Henrikh Mkhitaryan has created more chances in the Europa League than any other Dortmund player this season (20).

CLOSE! Lloris was rooted to the spot there, as the German's effort drifts a couple of feet wide of the post.

CORNER! Mkhitaryan's strike is deflected wide by Wimmer's arm, albeit unintentionally, but Spurs are once again able to clear the ball. Five minutes plus stoppage time left in the first half.

Space for Dortmund everywhere. Extra man in the centre causing problems for #thfc, as are the wing-backs. https://t.co/HRjSiRF15p

GOAL! No surprise to see it come from @Aubameyang7! Can @SpursOfficial respond? #DOR 1 #TOT 0 #UELhttps://t.co/CHj9zveD3V9dea0f6e-2662-445a-aced-f12204677452.jpg

Trippier is receiving some treatment after a heavy landing. Looks like a shoulder injury.

But the former Burnley man looks OK to continue, certainly for the remaining seconds of the half. Two minutes of additional time to be played.

HALF TIME: DORTMUND 1-0 TOTTENHAM

HT: 1-0 . Dortmund's goal came in #thfc's most convincing spell but they've done well to limit it to one. https://t.co/HRjSiRF15p
