From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Match facts

Borussia Dortmund have lost just one of their last eight matches at home to English sides in European competition, but this defeat was against Spurs' North London rival Arsenal (W5 D2).

The Lilywhites have won twice away in Germany in their European history - beating Bayer Leverkusen 1-0 in 2006 and FC Koln in 1974, both coming in the UEFA Cup.

Dortmund have made the last 16 of each of their last four European campaigns, the other three being in the Champions League. They were however eliminated at the last 16 stage last season to Juventus in that competition.

Spurs have reached the last 16 of the Europa League for the first time since 2013/14, having been eliminated at the last 32 stage by Fiorentina last season.

The last time Borussia Dortmund faced an English side in the knockout phases of a European competition, they went onto to win the tournament (v Manchester United in the Champions League semi-final in 1996/97).

Only Aritz Aduriz (7) has scored more Europa League goals this season than Erik Lamela (6).

Henrikh Mkhitaryan has created more chances in the Europa League than any other Dortmund player this season (20).

CHANCE! An electric start from Tottenham, as Eriksen fires a shot at goal that Weidenfeller claims.

A recap of what happened there, Heung-min Son managed to bundle his way past his opponents before slipping the ball across to the Dane, who wasn't about to think twice before firing a tester at goal. Encouraging.

CORNER! Onomah does well down the right flank and his cross is only bundled out by the Dortmund keeper. Sadly for Spurs, nothing comes from it.

richard.parry10 March 2016 18:05

TWO MISSES! First effort on goal from Dortmund from Castro flies over before Durm wastes a good chance to test Lloris at the very least.

richard.parry10 March 2016 18:07

Dortmund break again, and the movement of Aubameyang and Reus is starting to cause Spurs problems.

richard.parry10 March 2016 18:10

CHANCE! Spurs' midfield is struggling. Aubameyang again involved, but the Gabon forward can only volley it over the crossbar. A real let-off for Pochettino's men.

richard.parry10 March 2016 18:12

Not a bad opening 10-15 minutes, that's for sure.

richard.parry10 March 2016 18:12

OFFSIDE! Aubameyang has the ball in the net, but the linesman flags it offside after Mkhitaryan's rocket stung the hands of Lloris.

richard.parry10 March 2016 18:15

15mins Dortmund have the ball in the net after Hugo produces a fine save from distance and Aubameyeng follows up. Offside given, 0-0.#COYS

Just a word of warning, Spurs fans... The last time you played away in Europe to a team in yellow, you lost to BSC Young Boys...
