The Blues are back in Europe's premiere club competition following a one-year absence in which they claimed the Premier League title.
After that brilliant debut year, Antonio Conte endured a difficult summer in west London and an even more difficult start to the season with that home defeat to Burnley on the opening day.
But quietly Chelsea have turned things around with three wins on the bounce and now find themselves back near the summit of the table.

It's a big game for...
Tiemoue Bakayoko. The young midfielder was a big part of Monaco's exciting run to the semi-finals of this competition last year, protecting his defence and releasing the likes of Kylian Mbappe, Bernardo Silva and Falcao to wreak havoc going forward. But there have been fears in west London that the departure of Nemanja Matic has weakened Chelsea with competition on both domestic and European fronts this year. A big performance from Bakayoko at the heart of Chelsea's midfield at the start of this Champions League campaign could go a long way to putting the Stamford Bridge faithful at ease.
Player to watch...
Charly Musonda. The youngster has been unlucky so far this season, coming on as a substitute in Chelsea's defeats to Arsenal, on penalties in the Community Shield, and Burnley. However, reports this week suggest Conte is set to rest some of his more senior players and Musonda himself dropped a hint on Instagram that he could be set for some more first-team action soon. An opportunity against the unfancied Qarabag could see the 20-year-old attacking midfielder make a case for more regular inclusion.

A difficult evening for Anderlecht as just got that bit harder following the dismissal of Sven Kums. The centre-back has been red carded after pulling back Robert Lewandowski after the Polish striker had got goalside of his marker. And it could be about to get worse because it's a penalty to the German champions...

Robert Lewandowski makes no mistake, sweeping home from the sport to put Bayern into an early lead.
13 mins: GOAL! OLYMPIAKOS 0 SPORTING LISBON 2:
If the Olympiakos defending was bad for Sporting's opener, it was even worse for the second. Seydou Doumbia and Gelson Martins were left in acres of space as the visitors quickly counter-attacked, and the latter had no problem rolling in his fifth goal of the season.
15 mins: Man Utd 0 Basel 0: The goals are flying in, but not at Old Trafford. Nevertheless, it's been a promising start for United, who have seen plenty of the ball and have registered a couple of shots through Romelu Lukaku. The only scare for the home fans came when Henrikh Mkhitaryan went down with a knock, but the Armenian was fit to continue a couple of minutes later.
18 mins: Man Utd 0 Basel 0: This isn't such good news for United followers though. Paul Pogba - the Red Devils captain for the night - has pulled up, holding his hamstring. The French midfielder is in clear discomfort and signals to the bench that he will not be able to continue. It's a huge blow for the player and his club.
Marouane Fellaini is the man who will replace Pogba.
19 mins: GOAL! CELTIC 0 PSG 1:
The most expensive footballer in the world, Neymar, has given PSG the lead at Parkhead. The home side were guilty of switching off after they weren't awarded a free-kick for a foul on Scott Sinclair, and that allowed Adrien Rabiot to thread a pass beyond Anthony Ralson for the Brazilian to move in and place a shot high past Craig Gordon.
23 mins: Man Utd 0 Basel 0: Henrikh Mkhitaryan hits the post! Old Trafford was celebrating when Lukaku powered his way to the touchline and pulled the ball back into the six-yard box, but the Armenian's close range effort returned off the base of the woodwork. Mkhitaryan had a second bite at the cherry, but his follow up fell into the grateful arms of the grounded Tomas Vaclik.
28 mins: Man Utd 0 Basel 0: Mkhitaryan can't be enjoying this first half. Following his close range miss moments ago, the Armenian playmaker is now writhing around in agony after finding himself on the receiving end of an awful looking Eder Balanta lunge. Thankfully for all involved, there was minimal contact otherwise the results - Mkhitaryan fit to continue and a yellow card for Balanta - could have been much worse.

It's 2-0 at Stamford Bridge where Davide Zappacosta has his first goal for Chelsea in spectacularly fortunate circumstances. The Italian burst down the right and sent a cross flying over the head of Ibrahim Sehic.
35 mins: GOAL! MAN UTD 1 BASEL 0:
United breakthrough! Moments after Basel's most threatening moment of the game, a snapshot from Luca Zuffi, and the home side take the lead. The goal came courtesy of two players that not many would have expected to make a mark this evening, but Ashley Young - in the side for the first time this season, got down the right and crossed perfectly for substitute Marouane Fellaini to head past Tomas Vaclik. The Belgian had only been on 17 minutes for the injured Paul Pogba.
