From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Barca came through the group stage undefeated, are top of La Liga and are into the Copa del Rey semi-finals, but they have been through mixed form in recent weeks.
Lyon managed to beat Manchester City in the group stages and will surely need a similar result here at home in order to come through the tie at the Camp Nou. Follow it live:

Lyon 0-0 Barcelona, 25 minutes
All in all, a fairly even first 25 minutes at the Groupama Stadium.
Lyon proved they can mix it with the big boys against Manchester City in the group stages and the pace and trickery of Moussa Dembele, Martin Terrier, Bertrand Traore and Memphis Depay is starting to cause Barcelona problems.
Liverpool 0-0 Bayern Munich, 27 minutes
Joshua Kimmich picks up a booking as Sadio Mane squeezes past him down the left, and the Bayern right-back will miss the second leg.
Lyon 0-0 Barcelona, 30 minutes
Lionel Messi continues to find the little pockets in and around the Lyon area, and has a half-volley deflected behind for a corner.
That, of course, comes to him on the edge of the box, and Messi opts to try to beat the nine Lyon outfield players still assembled in the area.
If anyone can perform such a task, it would be him, but he fails to best even the first and the French side can clear to safety.
Liverpool 0-0 Bayern Munich, 31 minutes
Bayern Munich are wise to Liverpool's threat on the counter, showing reticence to really commit to attacks.
Andrew Robertson overhits a cross to waste a rare opportunity to really launch such an attack after Javi Martinez is caught slightly out of position in midfield.
Liverpool 0-0 Bayern Munich, 34 minutes
Sadio Mane rather squanders an opportune moment as Naby Keita's shot squirms through Niklas Sule blocking, off-balance on-the-turn as he shoots wide.
Liverpool are briefly interested in a handball from Sule as the towering centre-half got in a rather awkward position throwing himself in the path of the ball, but Goanluca Rocchi waves appeals away and VAR won't even have another look. Nothing doing.
Liverpool 0-0 Bayern Munich, 36 minutes
Serge Gnaby gets his head up on the corner of the box and spots gap to thread a shot to.
The ball is careering wide of Alisson's goal but the Brazilian takes no chances, tipping behind.
Liverpool 0-0 Bayern Munich, 38 minutes
Another chance for Sadio Mane.
It is another deflected Naby Keita shot that eventually comes the winger's way, this time looping across the box and behind Mane moving to the edge of the six-yard box.
Mane is therefore forced into a spot of acrobatics, but it is the shin rather than the foot that connects with the ball and thus takes it high and wide.
Liverpool 0-0 Bayern Munich, 39 minutes
There's an end-to-end nature to the game now, and a very decent contest has emerged.
A Bayern corner is aimed towards Javi Martinez and the sizeable Spaniard nearly forces an opening for Robert Lewandowski.
Sadio Mane then earns a corner from a well-timed Joshua Kimmich intervention.
Liverpool 0-0 Bayern Munich, 40 minutes
Another opening for the home side.
Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino combine cleverly down the left and it is Joel Matip of all people to find space in the box, Mats Hummels just about doing enough as the shot flies wide.
