From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Here are the half time scores elsewhere in the Europa League:
Vidi get us going again for the second half. Can Chelsea improve on a fairly tepid first half display?
Vidi 1-1 Chelsea
47 minutes
Chance! Stopira is unmarked at the back post and is picked out from a corner. He has time to guide his header, but instead lofts it over the bar.
Vidi 1-1 Chelsea
50 minutes
Barkley wins a free kick on the edge of the box, and Willian, of course, is there again. Can he score another?
Vidi 1-1 Chelsea
51 minutes
Willian, generously, lets Emerson take it. The full back strikes the wall, though: a tame effort that was never troubling Vidi.
Vidi 1-1 Chelsea
55 minutes
Willian is off, replaced by Pedro.
GOAL! Vidi 2-1 Chelsea (Nego)
56 minutes
What a strike! Vidi break quickly and Milanov plays a ball to the far post. Nego peels away and meets it on the volley. He strikes it perfectly, and it flies past Caballero, who could do nothing about it.
Vidi 2-1 Chelsea
58 minutes
Hudson-Odoi cuts inside from the left and looks to curl one into the far corner. It's saved by Kovacsik, who just about picks up the loose ball with Chelsea players waiting for a tap in. The visitors are looking for a quick equaliser.
Vidi 2-1 Chelsea
60 minutes
Vidi's hopes of qualifying for the knockout stages are all but over, as BATE are 3-1 up at PAOK. But this would still be a famous result for the Hungarians.
