Welcome along to all the latest coverage ahead of Euro 2020 which gets going tomorrow in Rome. That’s come around quickly. Italy vs Turkey is the first game taking place at 8pm BST on Friday night, preceded by an opening ceremony of some kind – presumably scaled back given the pandemic. UK viewers can watch it all unfold on the BBC and online via the iPlayer.
There is a relaxed feel around the England camp, underpinned by Jack Grealish’s jovial press conference yesterday where he joked about Aston Villa’s lack of set-piece quality to take advantage of him being so regularly fouled, laughed off comparisons with Paul Gascoigne and – more bizarrely from one Italian journalist – Francesco Totti. Later Declan Rice discussed carrying “no fear” into the tournament and why he chose England over Ireland.
All the talk is about Gareth Southgate’s first selection for the opener with Croatia on Sunday with suggestions growing he could well opt for a back three with four full-backs in the line-up including Luke Shaw at centre-half. Harry Maguire trained for the first time this morning as he bids to prove his fitness for the tournament.
We will have all the latest news and updates right here ahead of the tournament finally getting under way this week, with press conferences from the Scotland, Wales and England camps all to come today.
Bayern Munich centre-back Jerome Boateng has defended Timo Werner, who struggled to find form for Chelsea in his debut season in England.
"At the Euros, we will see another Timo Werner, a hungry Timo. A Timo with more arrogance, because he has just won the Champions League. It carries you. He will show who he really is."

Euro 2020 news: Deschamps calms down upset Mbappe after Giroud comments
Is there unrest in the French squad?
Kylian Mbappe did not take too kindly to some comments made by Olivier Giroud, who came off the bench to score two late goals in France’s 3-0 friendly win against Bulgaria, but responded bluntly in a post-match interview
“You say that I was quiet, but it’s because sometimes I ask for the ball and it doesn’t reach me,” Giroud said.
“Then, I try to make as many calls as possible to my teammates and try to provide solutions in the box.”
According to L’Equipe, Mbappe felt singled out by Giroud‘s comments, particularly as the 34-year-old highlighted the assists provided by Benjamin Pavard and Wissam Ben Yedder.
“With two good assists from Ben Yedder and Pavard, I was able to finish the game well, but we could have scored more goals if we had been more efficient,” Giroud added.
Reports in France state that the 22-year-old was not satisfied with Giroud’s apology and told boss Didier Deschamps that he wanted to give a press conference on Thursday to give his side of the story.
However, Deschamps dissuaded Mbappe, calmed him down and told him to focus on France‘s Euro 2020 opener against Germany on Tuesday.
It’s not really a major tournament without some French drama, right?

Euro 2020 news: Italy duo recall social media abuse
Alessandro Florenzi and Federico Bernardeschi outlined the horrible experiences they encountered with social media.
“I remember receiving a message, I clicked on it, and it said ‘I hope you die.’ I looked at the account and it was a kid, he was 10 years old, at most 13, honestly,” said PSG full-back Florenzi, who is on loan from Roma.
“I couldn’t believe it. Why would a child wish death upon me? I hope he feels better now having said that, but he ruined my day, frankly. I got others that were similar, saying they wished I would break a leg or end up in a wheelchair.
“I hope they now know that it won’t make a difference. I am centred. I will not budge.”
Juventus player Bernardeschi is often targeted for insults on social media, but he says the real world is very different.
“There was this guy who was always at the training ground, a fan, asking for autographs. Every time he spoke to me, he’d give me lots of compliments,” explained Bernardeschi.
“One day, I recognised his photograph from a social media account and he was aiming all sorts of negative things at me. That shows you it’s a parallel world, because sitting behind a keyboard gives you this bravery that when you are eye to eye, it disappears.”

“Whether he’s fit or not, I love having him here,” Phillips said. “I love speaking to him and having him around - it makes it more comfortable for players like me.
“I just think he’s a good person to have around, especially for the young lads that are here. There’s a lot of young lads, here for their first tournament as well and it’s good to have somebody who can share their experiences with you.”
