Patrick Vieira made two changes to the Crystal Palace side that lost 1-0 to Aston Villa last time out. Skipper Luka Milivojevic replaced midfielder Cheick Doucoure, who was sent off in that match, while Eberechi Eze made way for Jeffrey Schlupp, who returned to the starting XI after he was unavailable against Villa.
England defender John Stones returned to the Manchester City line-up for the first time since sustaining a hamstring injury in late January, in one of two changes for Pep Guardiola. Bernardo Silva was also re-introduced to the starting XI, while Kyle Walker and Kevin De Bruyne started on the bench.

On the attack, Stones and Akanji are setting up almost as midfielders, occupying spaces high up the pitch in the spaces vacated by forward-running Rodri and Gundogan. The visitors are heaping immense pressure on their opponents but Guehi and Andersen have been equal to the task so far, with Milivojevic and Lokonga eager to help out their team-mates.

Rodri finds Haaland with a short pass, with the striker immediately taking a touch to set himself before firing a shot. Guehi holds his ground bravely and blocks the shot with his legs, going down under the force of the strike.

A frustrated Haaland takes the legs out from underneath Ayew, giving Crystal Palace a free-kick inside the centre-circle. Olise takes his time over the set-piece but eventually sends his delivery looking for the run of Guehi at the far post. It’s a good idea but the ball runs just ahead of the centre-back and out for a goal-kick.

Dias finds Gundogan, who dribbles past two opponents and falls to the turf 20 yards from goal with Ayew at his back. He looks back to the match official for a verdict, but Robert Jones sees nothing wrong with the Palace forward’s marking as play continues.

Akanji strides forward into midfield and plays a hard pass into the feet of Haaland, standing with his back to goal just outside the penalty area. After receiving the ball he tussles with Andersen and goes down looking for the set-piece but the referee awards Crystal Palace a free-kick, after spotting an infringement on the striker.

Grealish switches play after receiving Ake's layoff, looking to release Foden on the right-hand side. The winger takes his eye off the pass and lets it by hime for a Crystal Palace throw-in, much to the delight of the home support.
