Patrick Vieira made two changes to the Crystal Palace side that lost 1-0 to Aston Villa last time out. Skipper Luka Milivojevic replaced midfielder Cheick Doucoure, who was sent off in that match, while Eberechi Eze made way for Jeffrey Schlupp, who returned to the starting XI after he was unavailable against Villa.

England defender John Stones returned to the Manchester City line-up for the first time since sustaining a hamstring injury in late January, in one of two changes for Pep Guardiola. Bernardo Silva was also re-introduced to the starting XI, while Kyle Walker and Kevin De Bruyne started on the bench.

A tight affair that remained 0-0 until after the 75th minute, Manchester City show determination and resilience to earn an all-important three points, beating Crystal Palace by a single goal to nil. The hosts were organised into a low block that frustrated Silva and Grealish for the entirety of the match, with Andersen and Guehi working extremely well as a tandem to protect Guaita. Haaland was barely present in the match for large stretches, with the service to him denied expertly but as is so often the case, he would prove the difference maker. Carelessness before a Manchester City corner-kick allowed Gundogan to get into the 18-yard box to win a penalty, which was dispatched expertly by the Norway international. Despite looking promising at the back, Vieira’s side offered little going forward and never really threatened Ederson, who ended the match without a save made. The win puts Manchester City two points back of Arsenal at the top, while Crystal Palace stay 12th.
