The 2023/24 Premier League season is under way and you can follow every game and every goal right here with The Independent.

This year sees Manchester City try to defend their crown and claim a historic fourth title in succession. Pep Guardiola’s all-conquering City, who also won the Champions League and FA Cup last season, will have to see off Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester United, Liverpool and the rest to claim an unprecedented sixth league title in seven years.

Meanwhile Luton Town are making their first appearance in the Premier League, having risen from non-league in an incredible decade of progress. They followed Championship winners Burnley and second-placed Sheffield United in earning promotion to the top flight.

Owing to Caicedo's injury and Lerma's rocketed opener, there will be three additional minutes to end a drab first half devoid of much quality. That is, of course, discounting the fine opening strike from the Palace midfielder, who scored his first goal for the Eagles on his 22nd appearance for the club in all competitions.

WIDE! Finally, Chelsea have an attempt at the Palace goal. Madueke twists and turns before rolling through to the right of goal for Gallagher, who drags a low drive wide of the left-hand post. The former Eagles loanee does not come back to haunt his former side on this occasion.

Gusto's right-wing centre has Gallagher interested before Andersen heads away. Chelsea have to find a way to get Palmer into this game, with their chief creative asset managing just 18 touches so far.

This is just the second time in their last 13 Premier League games against Chelsea that Palace have taken the lead, also doing so in October 2022, going on to lose that game 2-1 at Selhurst Park.

Mateta slides through for Munoz, who goes down inside the Chelsea box after a nudge from Silva and, perhaps, Chilwell. The referee waves play on and the VAR sticks with the on-field decision.

Any hopes the opening goal would inject a shock into Chelsea's system has gone amiss. The Blues look as slow and ponderous as when the game was level, with half-time soon approaching at Selhurst Park.

Disasi and Petrovic fail to communicate as the former is forced to turn out for a throw-in, with Ayew lurking near the left-hand touchline. This has been a strange performance from Chelsea, although not one that is too unusual for their below-par season.

Caicedo stays down after the Franca opportunity. The Chelsea midfielder appears in some discomfort with a left-leg injury, receiving medical attention as the match comes to a temporary halt. The former Brighton man seems fine to continue, though.

WIDE! Another chance comes for Palace on the break. Fernandez's wayward pass allows Mateta to break before the striker offloads to Franca, who fires a disappointing left-footed attempt well wide to Petrovic's left.

The gameplan is working! Hodgson's men have sacrificed any sort of possession, waiting for their chance on the counter-attack before a moment of magic from Lerma. Make no mistake, Chelsea have been poor and Pochettino needs a response immediately.
