Kepa Arrizabalaga came off the bench to save two penalties and earn Chelsea Super League success in a shoot-out victory over Villarreal.
Thomas Tuchel made the call to replace Edouard Mendy in the closing stages of the 1-1 draw - with Kepa then providing the heroics.
Kai Havertz missed the first spot-kick but after that Chelsea were perfect while both Aissa Mandi and Raul Albiol both saw their penalties saved as Chelsea won the shoot-out 6-5.
Hakim Ziyech shone from the start and opened the scoring only to injure his shoulder before half-time to give Thomas Tuchel a worry ahead of the Premier League opener against Crystal Palace on Saturday. Relive all the action live below:

It was only penalties, and it was close, but it might have been in some way symbolic.
After a week when La Liga has been dismissed, and there have been justifiably grave concerns about the extreme strength in depth at a handful of European “superclubs”, one of the biggest seals the first silverware of the season by beating one of Spain’s upstarts thanks to their bench.
Substitute Kepa Arrizabalega - still the most expensive goalkeeper in the world - turned the tone and thread of this shootout by saving from Aissa Mandi, and then won it by saving from Raul Albiol:

Chelsea are a much happier bunch. Hakim Ziyech receives his medal with his arm in a sling. He injured his shoulder in the first half after putting the Blues in front.
Cesar Azpilicueta brings up the rear, lifts the Super Cup and hoists it aloft in front of his teammates who all erupt in cheers!

There’s understandable disappointment on the faces of the Villarreal team as they come up to collect their runners-up medals. They took the Champions League winners to a penalty shootout and their captain Raul Albiol missed the crucial one.
This is Unai Emery’s third time in the Super Cup and his third defeat. It’s just not falling his way in this competition.
