'A big rivalry' - Tuchel on Chelsea's London derby versus Conte's Tottenham

Welcome to The Independent’s live coverage of a huge London derby between Chelsea and Tottenham at Stamford Bridge. Thomas Tuchel’s side have already beaten Spurs three times so far this season, scoring seven goals and keeping three clean sheets in the process. But Chelsea have struggled of late as their title ambitions have slipped away. They now sit 13 points off Manchester City as securing a top four place becomes a more realistic target.

Meanwhile, Spurs are unbeaten in nine Premier League games under Antonio Conte and are now in a superb position to qualify for next season’s Champions League. A win this afternoon would take them into the top four - and victory at Stamford Bridge would also see Tottenham move just five points behind Chelsea with four games in hand.

But history sides with Chelsea. Spurs have only beaten their London rivals once at Stamford Bridge in the Premier League - a win which came in April 2018 as a Dele Alli brace saw them clinch a 3-1 victory. In all competitions, Tottenham have not scored against Chelsea in any of their last five meetings, ensuring they will be extremely motivated this afternoon as a win significantly closes the gap between the two sides. Follow all the team news and match action as Chelsea host Tottenham below, after the conclusion of Crystal Palace vs Liverpool:

Chelsea 0 - 0 Tottenham

9 mins: Japhet Tanganga closes down Malang Sarr too forcefully and gives Chelsea a free kick on the halfway line. Jorginho plays the ball up to Lukaku who flicks it off to Ziyech. Mount attempts a run into the box from the right but Ziyech’s through ball is intercepted and sent out for another Chelsea corner.

6 mins: Chelsea have settled quickly here. The ball comes out to Hudson-Odoi who brings it into the final third and passes it across to Jorginho. He lays it off to Ziyech who sets himself and then shoots from outside the box. He strikes it well enough but his effort gets deflected behind for a corner that Tottenham then deal with.

The Blues work the ball down the right wing where Mason Mount gets in behind Ryan Sessegnon. Chelsea vs Tottenham

Here come the teams. Chelsea can get their gap on Manchester City to 10 points if they win today and at the same time open a nine point gap on fourth placed Manchester United. The last thing Thomas Tuchel wants is to be drawn into a battle for a top four place.

Tottenham on the other hand will finish the day in fourth place if they manage to defeat the Blues on their home turf. Spurs will alos want revenge for the Carabao Cup semi-final where Chelsea beat them over two legs.

Chelsea could become the first Premier League team to win four games against an opponent in a season since Manchester City against West Ham in 2013-14, while the last side to win three games in the same month against an opponent were Aston Villa against Blackburn in January 2010.

Chelsea vs Tottenham

Thomas Tuchel has failed to win in four successive league matches for the first time since October 2016 during his time in charge of Borussia Dortmund.

Chelsea have dropped 13 points from a winning position this season, the most by a team in the top half of the table prior to the weekend.

They have kept only two clean sheets in 13 league matches, compared to seven clean sheets in their opening 10.

Tottenham are unbeaten in all nine of their Premier League fixtures under Antonio Conte but Spurs have failed to win any of their last 13 away league matches against sides starting the day in the top four.

They are looking to avoid equalling their club top-flight record of five successive away defeats in London derbies, having done it twice before in 1982 to 1984 and 1996 to 1997.

Liverpool indebted to Alisson as win over Crystal Palace keeps pressure on Man City

Liverpool remain in the Premier League title race after a 3-1 win at Crystal Palace, but this victory - a 10th in a row over this particular opponent - owed far more to some world-class goalkeeping and a very questionable penalty call than to their own fine start to the match.

The Reds were excellent for the first half an hour, then almost fashioned their own demise for the next 30 minutes. Only Alisson Becker proved an immovable barrier, and allowed the league’s second-placed team to move to within nine points of Manchester City, still with a game in hand.
