Follow live reaction as Chelsea defeated Palmeiras to win the Club World Cup for the first time in the club’s history in Abu Dhabi.

After the European champions were held to a 1-1 draw in normal time, the match went to an additional 30 minutes before Kai Havertz struck the winner from the penalty spot in the 117th minute.

Romelu Lukaku’s header midway through the second half was cancelled out by a Palmeiras equaliser from the spot, after the Brazilian side were awarded a soft penalty for a Thiago Silva handball.

He scored in the Champions League final to win it for Chelsea and now he’s scored in the Club World Cup final.

114 mins: Chelsea swing the corner into the box and the ball drops to Azpilicueta. He volleys a shot at goal but Luan blocks it with his left hand. His arm is away from his body and VAR sends the referee to the pitchside monitor.

After looking at the replay he comes back onto the pitch and points to the spot!

111 mins: Both teams are going through the motions now. The energy levels have significantly dropped, only Timo Werner seems willing to inject some pace into the play.

Chelsea bring the ball down the right wherr Ziyech chips a cross into the box. Havertz thinks he’s going to head it into the back of the net but Rocha jumps in front of him and nods the ball behind for a corner!

108 mins: Werner’s cutback is prodded out of the Palmeiras box but it comes to Sarr. He flicks a pass over to Azpilicueta who floats the ball back into the middle. Another defensively header sees the ball come over to Chelsea’s right side where it’s collected by Ziyech. He sends yet another cross to the back post, Weverton comes out to claim the ball and gets fouled by Havertz.

105+1 mins: The first half of extra time comes to an end with neither team managing to get themselves in front. The players are tired now, there’s a reluctance to overcommit men forward and maybe give up a winning goal.

At this point penalties seems the most likely outcome.

102 mins: Rafael Navarro is brought on for Palmeiras with Dudu the man replaced. Chelsea continue to push for a winning goal with Azpilicueta flicking the ball into the box for Werner. Gomez gets his head to the ball first and then is fouled by Havertz as he keeps it from the Chelsea forward.

99 mins: Off the bar! Chelsea increase the tempo to feed the ball up to Havertz on the left side of the box. He holds it all as Werner comes around on the overlap. When the pass comes to Werner he cuts it back to Pulisic who dinks the ball over a defender and knocks it onto the crossbar when it bounces away!
