The 2023/24 Premier League season is under way and you can follow every game and every goal right here with The Independent.

This year sees Manchester City try to defend their crown and claim a historic fourth title in succession. Pep Guardiola’s all-conquering City, who also won the Champions League and FA Cup last season, will have to see off Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester United, Liverpool and the rest to claim an unprecedented sixth league title in seven years.

Meanwhile Luton Town are making their first appearance in the Premier League, having risen from non-league in an incredible decade of progress. They followed Championship winners Burnley and second-placed Sheffield United in earning promotion to the top flight.

Follow the latest action from the Premier League below.

Chelsea vs Manchester City

A quite extraordinary eight-goal thriller at Stamford Bridge comes to an end and the teams will share the spoils after a 4-4 draw. The game took a while to catch fire, Haaland putting City ahead in the 25th minute from the spot after being hauled down by Cucurella, but Chelsea responded, levelling through Thiago Silva's header before Sterling scored against his former team to make it 2-1 to the hosts. Back came City, though, as an unmarked Akanji restored parity with a header in first-half added time before Haaland bundled home his second of the game to put the champions 3-2 up. Chelsea would again answer through Jackson to make it three goals apiece, but Rodri appeared to net the winner with four minutes left, firing home via a huge deflection off Thiago Silva to put City on the verge of victory. There would be one final twist, however, as Broja came off the bench to win a penalty after being brought down by Dias before Palmer, against the club whose academy he grew up in, stepped up to fire home from the spot and earn Chelsea a point. The result moves Chelsea up into the top half, and they will look to continue their upturn in form away at injury-hit Newcastle United next Saturday. City miss the chance to extend their lead at the summit to three points, and they have a huge home game with Liverpool to look forward to next weekend. That is all we have for you from Stamford Bridge, so thanks for your company and goodbye!

Walker is the man trusted to take the free-kick, but his curling effort does not quite dip enough and instead clears the crossbar. It stays 4-4!

Sterling takes out Foden with a really poor challenge and receives a booking. Perhaps more pressing is that City will have a free-kick and a chance to get the ball into the Chelsea box. Does this game have a ninth goal in it?

PENALTY TO CHELSEA!!!!! UNBELIEVABLE!!!! Chelsea will have the chance to level yet again from the spot as Broja, who has just come off the bench, is wiped out by Dias in the City box. The referee points to the spot, and the hosts will have a spot-kick!

We are well into eight minutes of additional time at the end of this game. Can City see it out?
