Liverpool held by brilliant Brentford in Premier League thriller

Premier League, you’re having a laugh. Noise and nonsense was on offer at Brentford on Saturday evening, with no shortage of either in a breathless and relentlessly unpredictable 3-3 draw with Liverpool.

The game ended just as it started, in a cacophony of noise and excitement, but between the first whistle and the last an awful lot happened, almost too much to take in during one single game.

Brentford 3 - 3 Liverpool

Liverpool move a point clear at the top of the Premier League table but they’ve left the door ajar for Chelsea and Manchester United who dropped points today.

Manchester City’s win over the Blues moves them into second and just one point behind the Reds. It’s shaping up to be a great season.

That point also moves Brentford up to ninth ahead of Tottenham.

Full-time: Brentford 3 - 3 Liverpool

90+5 mins: There goes the final whistle! The points are shared at the Brentford Community Stadium. The Bees fought back twice from being a goal behind. David Raya made a bunch of brilliant saves. Liverpool dominated the ball but left themselves open at the back.

Three goals and a point each taken from the game. Fair enough.

Brentford 3 - 3 Liverpool

90+2 mins: Amazing from Van Dijk! Incredible from Raya! Brentford break on the counter-attack and flick the ball up to Toney. He bursts towards the box but gets caught by Van Dijk who wins the ball with a great tackle.

Liverpool fly down the right side of the pitch. A diagonal ball comes to Mane in the box and he passes it into the six-yard area. Firmino arrives and turns the ball at goal but Raya sticks out a hand and keeps it out!

Brentford 3 - 3 Liverpool

90 mins: Five minutes of added time to play! Loads of time to add to all the drama this match has already provided.

Brentford 3 - 3 Liverpool

87 mins: Disallowed goal! Ivan Toney almost caps of a perfect night for Brentford after Liverpool clear the corner. The ball is chipped back into the box, he brings it down and sends a fantastic finish into the far bottom corner but the goal gets chalked off as he was offside!

Brentford 3 - 3 Liverpool

85 mins: You just felt there was going to be another goal. Mo Salah missed a great chance to kill off the game but it’s Brentford who struck. This has been a brave, attacking performance from the Bees and they deserve a point at least.

But they might get more. Mbeumo drives into the left side of the box and squares the ball. Van Dijk sends it behind for a corner and gives his fellow defenders a good telling off.

GOAL! Brentford 3 - 3 Liverpool ( Wissa, 82’)⚽️

82 mins: It’s the substitute! Yoane Wissa has just come on in place of Christian Norgaard. The ball is whipped into the box from the inside right. Ivan Toney sits down Trent Alexander-Arnold when winning the aerial ball. He falls to Wissa who has one effort blocked but manages to get to the rebound and poke it into the back of the net from inside the six-yard box! Brentford are level!

Brentford 2 - 3 Liverpool

79 mins: Chance! Liverpool’s forwards combine as Jota feeds the ball into Mane. He splits the Brentford defence with a pass into Salah. Salah only has Raya to beat as he lifts the ball over the goalkeeper but can’t get it to dip under the crossbar!
