A 73rd-minute strike by Ollie Watkins earned Aston Villa all three points at 10-man Chelsea in the Premier League on Sunday.
Watkins tore apart the home defence on the counter and angled his shot deftly through Chelsea keeper Robert Sanchez’s legs and in off the far post.
Chelsea had been in charge for most of the match, with Raheem Sterling and Nicolas Jackson finding space behind the defenders. But as so often in recent months, they failed to find the telling shot with Villa’s Argentina goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez stopping a string of chances.
Villa found more ambition after Malo Gusto was sent off in the 58th minute following a VAR check for a late tackle on Lucas Digne.

SAVE! Thiago Silva releases Sterling over the top and through on goal. He only has Martinez to beat as he bears down on the target, but the Villa keeper spreads himself to make the stop.

It has been groundhog day for Chelsea in front of goal. They've got themselves into good positions, but have lacked the clinical edge to get the breakthrough. Disasi should have kept himself onside, while Jackson should have converted his opening. Villa have looked dangerous at times, but have been exposed at the back as well.

Despite signaling three minutes of added time, the half ends after only two. It's goalless at Stamford Bridge in the Premier League clash between Chelsea and Aston Villa. Villa have had the best chances of the game as Robert Sanchez has been called on twice to deny Lucas Digne and Nicolo Zaniolo with reaction stops. At the other end, Chelsea have had the ball in the next, but Axel Disasi was offside, while Nicolas Jackson also missed a good opportunity.
