33 min: Liverpool had certainly had the edge in terms of chances, and that goal seems fair reward for their start here. Brighton look threatening, though.

Finally, the breakthrough! Liverpool break and Salah feeds Harvey Elliott surging into the box. The midfielder composes himself before hitting first time with his weaker right foot, and Steele can’t get quiet enough glove on the ball to stop it rolling into the net.

28 min: Lamptey intercepts Gakpo’s pass to Salah, and Brighton go on the attack.

25 min: That was the best chance of the game so far but there have been plenty. Incredible that it’s still goalless.
