Brighton & Hove Albion vs Tottenham Hotspur
A confident 45-minute performance from Tottenham is rewarded with two goals, with Postecoglou’s side taking a deserved 2-0 lead into the interval at American Express Stadium. The visitors threatened after just 120 seconds following a turnover in midfield, but Werner was unable to find the key pass for Johnson to make the most of the opportunity. 22 minutes later and Totteham were in the lead - shortly following Maddison’s disallowed goal for offside - with Johnson breaking through the lines to get on the end of Solanke’s pass and finish tidily in the bottom corner. The goal seemingly sparked Brighton into life, with Mitoma looking livelier down the left, but a couple of squandered opportunities from Welbeck would give Tottenham the chance to double their lead late in the half, with Maddison finally getting his name on the scoresheet after his bouncing effort skipped through the gloves of Verbruggen. Despite zero goals and zero shots on target, the hosts finished the 45 minutes with an xG of 0.65, while Spurs strike twice with 0.95.
