Brighton & Hove Albion vs Southampton
After 114 minutes of football, the points have been shared between the two coastal sides as the game ends 1-1. The first half was all about Brighton as they came out of the traps quickly. Rutter and Mitoma had the best chances early on, as Mitoma failed to beat Lumley one-on-one, and Rutter’s left-footed shot came crashing back off the post. Mitoma then put the home side ahead with a nod past Lumley, following a superb cross from Lamptey that he met at the back post. The score was 1-0 to Brighton at the break, but they weren’t home and dry just yet. Southampton started the second half strongly, and after 59 minutes, Manning floored Lamptey before putting the ball in the box towards his attackers. After a moment of pinball in front of the goal, Downes found the ball in front of him and he lashed it home past Verbruggen who couldn’t even react. Only 10 minutes later, Southampton thought they had gone ahead through Archer, only for the goal to be disallowed due to Armstrong interfering with play in an offside position. It will be a heavily discussed decision, and it will be controversial but the score remained 1-1. After a nervy ending to the game with 14 minutes of added time, neither side could find a winner despite Adingra being only a better finish away from winning it in the late stages. The game ended 1-1, and both sides gained another point. Brighton generated 1.45 xG throughout the game, and Southampton created 1.02 xG of their own. HUGE CHANCE! Adingra fails to win it in the last minute! Mitoma sent a low ball across the box and Adingra got a small touch on the ball, but not enough to guide it into the goal! The effort ended up nicking the post on the way through as well. What a moment that was for Brighton!
