Brighton vs Arsenal LIVE: Premier League result and reaction as Kai Havertz leads Gunners to top of table

Something-nil to the Arsenal: it has a ring to it. But if the chants from the Arsenal away end at Brighton were a throwback to the 90s, Mikel Arteta’s has now built a defence to match the days of Dixon, Bould, Adams and Winterburn. As the Gunners returned to the top of the Premier League table, they did so while keeping five clean sheets away from home in a row for the first time since 1997.

You could see why, as Gabriel Magalhaes threw himself to block Joao Pedro’s shot in stoppage time. Arsenal were 3-0 up and cruising, but Gabriel celebrated as if it had won the Gunners the match.

Arsenal have kept five consecutive clean sheets away from home in the Premier League for the first time since April 1997 (five), while they’re the first side to do so in the competition since Manchester City in April 2022 (also a run of five).

90+5 mins: The final whistle goes and Arsenal go top of the table once again. They’re comfortably beaten Brighton 3-0 thanks to a marvellous display from Kai Havertz amongst others.

Saka, Havertz and Trossard scored the goals plus it’s another clean sheet for David Raya. Manchester City won today, so did Arsenal.

Leandro Trossard wins the ball as Brighton commit men up to the pitch. He squirts it to Kai Havertz who releases the former Brighton man into space.

Trossard sprints down the pitch then chips the ball over Bart Verbruggen to secure the points for Arsenal.

83 mins: Pascal Gross fails to beat the first defender when swinging in a corner ball. For the last 10 minutes or so Brighton have been the aggressors but Arsenal have totally shut them out.

They’ve barely created a chance at goal.

80 mins: Saliba is booked for a nudge which brings Brighton a free kick inside the Gunners’ half. It’s a good chance to work the ball into the box but the visitors handle the danger without too much trouble.

77 mins: Ansu Fati comes on to replace Danny Welbeck for Brighton. He’ll want to impress with the time remaining in this game as Brighton are starting to build a touch of momentum.

74 mins: Arsenal are sitting off Brighton and allowing them to control the ball. It means more of their players are available to help out defensively.

David Raya boots one long towards Kai Havertz but he’s taken out by Carlos Baleba who earns a yellow card.

71 mins: Lewis Dunk’s cross curls straight into the hands of David Raya. It’s good pressure from Brighton who are pressing high and trying to get the ball into the box.
