Arsenal lost their unbeaten record this season as Bournemouth claimed just their second Premier League victory against the Gunners after William Saliba was sent off.

The centre-back was shown a straight red card for denying an “obvious” goal-scoring opportunity when he brought down Evalison following Leandro Trossard’s back-pass.

It was Arsenal’s third red card this season and Mikel Arteta’s side have now dropped seven points in the games in which they have been reduced to 10 men, following draws against Brighton and Manchester City.

Ryan Christie smashed Bournemouth into the lead with a first-time finish from a clever corner routine, before Justin Kluivert doubled their lead from the penalty spot.

That was self-inflicted, as well, after Jakob Kiwior played a loose ball towards goal and Raya brought down Evalison. It also came moments after Gabriel Martinelli missed a golden opportunity to put the visitors in front.

Arsenal, who were also without both Buakyo Saka and Martin Odegaard in a league game due to injury for the first time since 2021, take on Liverpool at home next week, a game Saliba is now suspended for.

Bournemouth 0-0 Arsenal

26 mins: Well, well. There are howls as William Saliba tugs Evanilson and the Bournemouth forward crashes down just inside halfway.

It was an awful pass from Trossard that put Saliba in trouble. He is booked, but will the VAR advise a check? Let’s see.

21 mins: Sterling clips a cross to the back post that goes beyond Trossard and out, and then gives away possession with a cut-back to Partey that is read by Scott.

Not a great couple of minutes for Sterling, who Arsenal will look to in these moments while Saka is out injured.

Bournemouth 0-0 Arsenal

16 mins: Raya holds his hand up after a pass out to Merino is easily cut out by Bournemouth’s Scott. It’s fed on to Semenyo, whose shot is wild and well over.

At the other end, Sterling almost creates some room in the box but tries to beat an extra man and his right-foot shot is blocked.

Bournemouth 0-0 Arsenal

13 mins: It’s been a fairly quiet start for Mikel Merino on what is his full Arsenal debut. He’s slotted in on the right of Arsenal’s midfield three, or the Odegaard position.

The right side looks very different for Arteta’s team tonight, with White, Merino and Raheem Sterling.

Bournemouth 0-0 Arsenal

10 mins: A Bournemouth corner is easily cleared and suddenly the break is on for Arsenal as Araujo slips. Sterling feeds it wide to Trossard but Cook gets back well. Eventually, White’s cross is deflected wide for a corner.

No Saka means no inswinging corner from the right. Rice takes it but Bournemouth clear.

Bournemouth 0-0 Arsenal

8 mins: It’s been a good, lively start from Bournemouth. Scott wins a free kick on the left and the inswinging cross looks dangerous. Calafiori gets an important header away at the back post.

5 mins: By the way, with Saka and Odegaard out for Arsenal, it is Gabriel who skippers the Gunners.

2 mins:

An interesting positional switch to note: Bournemouth’s Antoine Semenyo seems to be lining up on the left of their attack, rather than his favoured right.

Is the in-form winger out to target Ben White?
