Bayern Munich vs Celtic LIVE: Champions League result and reaction as Davies’ late goal brings heartbreak for Hoops
Bayern Munich 1-1 Celtic (3-2 agg): Davies came off the bench to secure a place in the next round
Celtic missed out on a place in the Champions League last-16 despite a spirited and superb outing away from home against Bayern Munich.
The hosts led 2-1 after the first leg in Scotland but looked off the pace in a disjointed first half where they barely threatened Celtic’s goal and went into the break as the second best team.
Brendan Rodgers’ side had created plenty of decent chances but it was former Bayern man Nicolas Kuhn who sent the visitors ahead and looked like forcing the match to extra time.
With the Hoops now level on aggregate, Bayern piled on the pressure in the last 20 minutes and it was a substitute, Alphonso Davies, who provided the difference. With the last kick of the game, Davies arrived at the back post and turned home a rebound from Kasper Schmeichel after the goalkeeper kept out a headed effort from Leon Goretzka.
It was an incredible end to a fine match but Bayern Munich are the ones to progress.

The home fans are still in full voice though there’s been a few hairy moments.

He plays the ball inside where Josip Stanisic comes into the box.
Stanisic lets the ball run and Kimmich collects before slotting a shot wide of the target.

33 mins: Celtic’s gameplan is working superbly.
They’re pressing and working well off the ball. On the rare occasions they get forward, there’s been a desire to get at the Bayern defence.
It’s been a fine outing so far but they need a goal to really put the hosts in trouble.

They’re getting into good areas but like a clinical edge.
Musiala is left with a soft effort from well outside the box, after some decent build-up play, and Schmeichel has no issues keeping it out.

He looks to send it into the box but can’t pick out a teammate though he does win a corner.
Kimmich’s delivery is sent towards Schmeichel who punches it clear.

Celtic celar an initial corner from Joshua Kimmich before Michael Olise curls in a second cross.
Guerreiro arrives at the far side of the box but his effort is blocked and sent out for another corner.
This one comes to nothing.

Kuhn’s chance was the best one but he later curled a low pass into the six-yard box that Maeda couldn’t get on the end of.
At the pther end of the pitch Kane gets another sight at goal and drills his effort into the hands of Schmeichel!

Celtic turn the ball over in the middle of the pitch and quickly send it up ot Daizen Maeda.
Bayern are scrambling at the back again as the striker shoots from the edge of the box.
He connects well but lifts the ball high and wide.

They’ve certainly stepped it up. Jota is afforded space on the left and weaves into the box.
He flicks the ball across to Nicolas Kuhn who takes a touch then rolls the ball past the goalkeeper.

Bayern are controlling play, dominating possession and playing through the lines.
The Hoops hope to stay in this game for as long as they can and perhaps challenge the Bundesliga leaders in the second half.
