Follow live coverage as Aston Villa face Nottingham Forest in the Premier League today.

Manchester City are reigning champions after beating Liverpool to the finish line in a neck-and-neck 2021/22 title race where a comeback win on the final day of the season against Aston Villa secured a fourth title in five years for Pep Guardiola's side.

Jurgen Klopp's Reds were on course for a quadruple last season but were forced to settle for just an FA Cup and Carabao Cup win and will return trying to win the title again just as they did in 2020.

It was a dramatic season for Chelsea a year ago with Roman Abramovich now replaced by Todd Boehly as owner in west London. He will want an instant return on his hefty investment at Stamford Bridge while Tottenham, back in the Champions League, will want to kick on once more too.

It's not all about the action at the top though with Fulham, Bournemouth and Nottingham Forest promoted to the top tier for 2021/22 and hoping to hold their own against the best English football has to offer and avoid the drop.

We will bring you all the action and updates from today's game in the live blog below:

As Matty Cash remains sidelined by injury, Young - who scored in the reverse fixture at the City Ground earlier this season - continues at right-back for Aston Villa today. Emery names an XI unchanged from the victory over Leicester in midweek, so Traore remains on the bench despite his match-winning heroics. The Villans are once again without Philippe Coutinho and Boubacar Kamara.

Nottingham Forest are without a win in eight ahead of today's game, sitting outside the relegation zone only by virtue of goal difference. Steve Cooper was given the public backing of club owner Evangelos Marinakis after Tuesday's 2-1 defeat at Leeds United, but the pressure is now on to produce better results. Forest have the worst away record in the Premier League this season, having claimed just a single win on the road and suffered 10 defeats. Furthermore, their recent record versus Villa is similarly dismal, though they held today's hosts to a 1-1 draw in October's reverse fixture.

A brilliant run of form has helped Aston Villa climb to seventh in the Premier League table, and a 2-1 victory at Leicester City in midweek was their fifth win in six games. Since taking charge at the Birmingham club, Unai Emery has won 10 of his 16 league matches - only Arsenal and Manchester City have accrued more points than Villa during that time. Indeed, such has been the Villans' revival, they sit only two points shy of the top six with nine games remaining and European qualification is in their sights.
