Arsenal missed out on the chance to move top of the Premier League table as they slumped to a 2-0 loss and a first home defeat of the season against West Ham.

The home slide flew out of the traps in the early goings but soon found themselves behind when Tomas Soucek slammed home an effort in the first half, which stood after a lengthy VAR check couldn’t determine whether the ball had gone out of play in the build-up.

David Moyes had never won away against Arsenal in his managerial career but his team took a further step towards victory when former Arsenal defender Konstantinos Mavropanos headed home from a corner after the break.

Declan Rice started his first league game against his former side and saw his blushes saved late on when David Raya saved Said Benrahma’s injury-time penalty after the former Hammers skipper brought down Emerson in the penalty area. Relive all the match action and reaction below:

Arsenal 0-2 West Ham

86 mins: A loose ball falls to Smith Rowe but the Arsenal midfielder can’t get it out of his feet and the effort is straight down Areola’s throat. Some Arsenal fans have seen enough and are heading for an early exit.

Arsenal 0-2 West Ham

82 mins: Saka takes a tumble after skipping past Ogbonna but there’s not sufficient contact for Oliver and play continues. VAR is taking a look but they, too, don’t feel it’s a penalty.

Arsenal 0-2 West Ham

81 mins: Into the final ten minutes of normal time we go. West Ham have had just one shot on target and 25 per cent possession but they stand on the brink of a famous away win and David Moyes’ first at the Emirates.

79 mins: Saka finds a yard of space inside the crowded West Ham box but his eventual low effort is straight at Areola who claims with ease.

Another roll of the dice for the home side as Smith Rowe replaces Trossard.

Arsenal 0-2 West Ham

75 mins: Arsenal must retain their composure if they are to find a way back into this game. Odegaard sending a pot shot well wide from long range is certainly not an example of that.

Arsenal 0-2 West Ham

73 mins: Benrahma squirms into the area and bundles an effort on goal, but it’s well blocked by a watchful White.

Arsenal 0-2 West Ham

72 mins: A minute after his poor cross, it’s a yellow card for Nelson following a late challenge on Soucek.

Arsenal 0-2 West Ham

70 mins: A promising free-kick which Nelson stands over on the left side of the area but it’s a wasted delivery that flies out for a goal-kick.

Arsenal 0-2 West Ham

66 mins: ANOTHER GOES BEGGING! Jesus has to score this one. It’s magical footwork from Odegaard before White clips a ball to the far post. Jesus is there - unmarked - but inexcusably balloons his header over the goal.

Arteta has his hands on his head - he knows how big a chance that was!

Arsenal 0-2 West Ham

65 mins: CHANCE! Jesus should do better. It’s a wonderful ball in from the left but Jesus’ header is straight at Areola. The Brazilian was no more than six yards out and surely should be testing the West Ham keeper more than that.
